Hello,
Can you point me in the right direction for a printable ring sizer? James Allen used to have a printable sizer, but now --like Blue Nile--will mail you a sizer. In the meantime, I am trying to find something I can print out for my FI. He came up as two different sizes at the two stores we visited. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thank you,
AT

printable sizers are terribly unreliable at best - cute, and good to find out if you're closer to a 3 or an 8, but for actually getting a ring made I would go to a couple of stores and get sized using their metal sizers in approximately the width you're planning for your ring

Ditto.

As Yissie pointed out, printable ring sizers tend to be horribly inaccurate. Likewise, the flexible ones often sent out by vendors in an attempt to provide customers with a cost effective ring sizing option are also inaccurate. I've yet to find anything as accurate as a metal ring sizer, we tried the hard plastic ones and they were not reliable either. The best option is definitely to have your finger sized by a qualified jeweler - somebody who not only has the right equipment, but who also has the experience to see how the sizing rings pass over your knuckle and fit upon your finger and who can make a valid recommendation in terms of the correct finger size.

I'm not saying that consumers are not capable of determining their own ring size, but sometimes a little experience with regards to how rings fit makes a tremendous difference in terms of getting it right - the first time. For instance, what is the design of the ring you are considering?

We use different ring sizers to determine a ring size if the desired ring measures 2 - 3 mm in width or 6+ mm in width.

Is the underside of the ring hollowed out? If so, the flesh of the finger is going to move into that area and (essentially) reduce your ring size...

Are two rings going to be worn side-by-side on the same finger? And if so, what are the widths and designs of those rings? Reasons explained above will magnify when two rings are placed side-by-side...

And the list goes on and on... A qualified jeweler will be able to consider the options and help you determine the right ring size, a strip of paper or a zip tie with a sizing chart printed on it is not likely to produce the same results.

Todd,

I agree with just about everything you said, except for what I've highlighted above. The flexible ring sizers we ship are very accurate and repeatable. I have measured my fingers with both our 3mm commercial ring sizers and our flexible ring sizers and the sizing is the same.

I agree with JA. I have the "multisizer" plastic slideable sizer that many companies use and it was accurate for me, for a thin, plain band that I wear. But of course, as others mentioned, ring width and other factors come into play that can can make the size you really need for the ring in question vary from what the ring sizer will tell you.

Thank you everyone! I received my slidable ring sizer and checked out a couple of jewelry stores over the weekend...the size came up the same for them (using half sizes, no quarter sizing was available).

Awesome to hear Jim, one of these days you'll have to tell me where you found those! ;))
