I have been researching princess cuts for months now and really love that cut....but the settings I have been looking at are the halo settings....similar to the tiffany legacy....and I love the way the cushion looks in those settings.

I hate to start all over in my research...is there any specifications that translate over to cushion? i.e. table should be less than the depth, crown should be 10% and over, etc??

Does AGS0 apply to cushion cut? My bf is going to kill me if I tell him I want a cushion now so I better have my facts straight!

No, there is no AGS ideal for cushions. The only way I''d buy one is to let either Mark at ERD or Jonathan at Good Old Gold pick a couple out for you. They know what to look for and can screen them for you. It is impossible for us to pick cushions just from numbers like we can rounds. I am not sure about ERD, but I know GOG has a lifetime trade-up policy.

I think it is good you are having a change of heart NOW rather than after he bought the stone!

(And I''d soooo much rather have the cushion than a princess...more timeless for sure.)

Actually, I found out from Mark that there are AGS 000 cushions, just VERY VERY VERY few (in fact, bargaincrazy on here has one). Mark is fantastic at finding cushions and they have a trade-up policy as well. I would trust either vendor in a heartbeat though!

As a new cushion owner, I''d obviously vote for the cushion!!!

ooops! That is news to me! Thanks! However, I wouldn''t limit my search to those because there are many gorgeous GIA cushions, I am sure!

Totally agree! Let Mark & Jon know what you''re looking for, and they will find you the perfect stone!

I am a bad one to ask as I LOVE cushions so much...do not care for princess cuts at all.

I love cushions too over the princess cut. ERD and GOG are great cushion vendors.

I will post a more detailed review later, but for the record, I just purchased an absolutely exqusite 2.03 ct cushion from Mark at ERD. I went to see it again today., literally. I am also getting my setting from him. i just needed reiterate how wonderful, helpful, honest and knowledgable Mark is. i also am not a a big fan of princess cut either. i dislike the sharp corners - a personal preference. i find the cushion to be more elegant and timeless. a round brilliant with a twist. mine will be in a simple platinum setting with a single delicate row of micro-pave around the stone and on the single shank. i will definitely post a photo when ready! Good luck with your ring. i am sure whatever you choose will be beautiful.

You can''t pick a cushion by the numbers, you need an expert vendor like Mark at ERD or Jon at GOG to name only 2 of the vendors who can find you a great cushion. Also detailed photographs are very useful along with ASET images, but a good vendor can help you every step of the way.

Cushions have a very different look and are MUCH harder to pick. There are also various varieties of cushion from the H&A square cushions that GOG carries (looks like the Novo), their Princess of Hearts, chunky cushions, modern cushions, antique cushions, crushed ice cushions, etc. You first have to decide which "flavour" you like.

Then the next step is to decide on the colour and clarity. You can still get by with SI1 but cushions show even more body colour, so the colour range might now be limited to the G/H to stay colourless.

What I''d do is have the vendor do the searching for me. GOG and ERD would be your best bet for handpicked cushions. My avatar shows a cushion from GOG.

My favourite parameters are:
Table: The smaller the better (65% and under)
Depth: The less the better (68% and under to avoid having a smaller diameter diamond)
Crown height: The higher the better (10% and higher for more fire)
Girdle: Avoid very thin and under, very thick and over to avoid chipping and hidden weight.
Polish: Very Good and better
Symmetry: Very Good and better

HOWEVER, cushions cannot be judged by the numbers or even the plot on the cert. 2 stones with similiar stats may look very different in style and one could be a beauty while the other is a dud. You MUST have a picture of the stone and an ASET.

I thought I posted this already, but apparently not.

Have you looked into Princess of Hearts? It has clipped corners and could be perfect for you....plus you can tell your bf you still want a princess, just a princess OF HEARTS...lol
