Princess out of proportions?

I want to first off thank everyone for the incredable wealth of knowledge I have found on this board! I knew nothing about Diamonds 2 months ago, but now I feel that I can make an informed decision on purchasing a great rock!!
Today I went to my local Jeweler and looked at three stones that I had requested from a dealer. Out of the selection I found one that was clearly the best of the three (color, clarity, brilliance) but, when she placed the stone loosely into a setting, it looked misshapen! I asked her if she thought it was disproportionate for a princess cut and she said that it will look fine once it’s set into the ring better. Below I have listed the measurements.

Princess cut:
Carat weight 1.25
Cut: Very Good
Color: H

Measurements: 6.10 X 5.49 X 4.38 mm
Total depth 79.8%
Table width: 74.0%

Do these measurements fall within the generally acceptable range of a princess cut? Will it affect the price? Or is it just a matter of preference!

The diamond should still look attractive set or not, I would suggest passing on this one - it should not look misshapen and even if it could be set to make it look better, I wouldn't want it! Although Princess need to be seen to be judged as you can't tell that much by numbers, it appears the diamond has too much depth. Although depth does not tell the whole story with these shapes as it is weight distribution which is the important factor, I would definitely suggest looking for some more diamonds - don't settle, there are well cut Princess out there! It is easy to pick the best out of the three for example, but I would suggest shopping around and look at as many as you can, so that you can get an idea for the type of Princess you like. Also you can now get AGS0 cut grade Princess which can be a great choice.

Here is a chart you can use as a guide only, don't get hung up on the numbers otherwise you could miss out on some beautiful diamonds, but it will give you a point of reference. The most important thing is to use your eyes to make the final selection, so do take your time and look at as many diamonds as you can to avoid regrets down the road.

Personally, I would skip this stone. I''m sure its gorgeous, but the l/w ratio is 1.11, which is pretty high for a princess. The length to width ratio, for me personally, should fall under 1.05, with the closer to 1.0 the better. I calculated 1.11 by just dividing 6.10/5.49=1.11.

Ditto - it doesn''t look very square. Have you tried to look for AGS Idea Princess stones? They will be the best of the best, so try to aim for those. Good luck
