I know that they are to totally different looks but can I get some opinions on which style stone the folks here like the most and why (Princess of Hearts - Asscher Cut).

I have an asscher but the PoH is to die for! They are so different, though, it's hard to compare.

Hi Jdam,
this is a hard decision for sure as they are so very different.
I am actually awaiting the arrival of my new PoH ring as we speak (yay) here is a thread with pics https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/yippeeee-for-me-my-poh-gog-ring-is-here.82931/

When I first started my search I asked myself the same question - I originally fell in love with asschers, but for my budget at least the PoH was a better choice. This was mainly because asschers will face up smaller and also show clarity and colour easier, compared to a PoH which actually has the faceting of a RB in a square shape (yum!). For these reasons, I could get a bigger size PoH for my money.

So I guess the main questions for you would be:
- What is your budget like?
- Do you prefer step or brilliant cuts appearance?
- What are your preferences with colour and clarity?
- And what size are you aiming for? Many believe that asschers below about 1ct may not be "worth it" as the awesome windmill patterns you see will not be as visible in smaller sizes.

So I love both and there are certainly some amazing asschers on here - just for fun take a look at the Royal Asscher cuts they are stunning. But for me personally, I have fallen in love with PoH and the other proprietry cuts from GOG such as square H&A and Jubilee.

hope that makes some sense!

What carat weight and what setting.

Approximately 3/4 ct and probably a bezel set at this point. Possibly with some type of small stones around it as well (rounds or baguettes, etc).

I''m on Team Asscher. In my opinion, there is not a more beautiful, clean, interesting stone out there. Mine is hypnotic! Good luck on your search!

I''ll be honest, and this is from an Asscher lover. In under 1 ct., I''d go with a POH. Asschers need some size to them, to really be able to appreciate the cut. Just mho.

My Asscher is .71 ct. and bezel set. I absolutely adore it, but I feel that it may have lost a tiny bit of the brilliance it had unset, simply because of the setting.

Some people absolutely LOVE step cuts, and can see past the fact that the fire, the sparkle will be less with an Asscher than with a PoH. Also, you have to make the decision - Which do you prefer - windmills, or arrows?

That being said, I seem to disagree with everyone else on the size requirements - if the patterns are decent in the Asscher, it won't matter that it's under 1 ct. If you'd like to see some recent pics of my ring, click on my avatar and look at my most recent Asscher topic.

Can't wait to see what you choose!

I bought a .92 asscher from GOG and had it set in a halo setting. It makes a big statement. It''s a rhr, but would be a killer ering too. POH are awesome. Good luck in choosing.
