I'm trying to help a friend to find the perfect engagement ring with a quite tight budget of under $2000 for the stone and the setting. He's looking for a princess cut stone of about 0.50 carats and he's willing to sacrifice color and clarity for a bigger mm size and excellent cut. I did find some suitable settings for him but I'm not really expert on princess cuts so a bit of help would be very much appreciated so that my friends could find a lovely stone :)) . All I could say to him is that the cut is king but I don't which qualities are desirable in princesses.

His fiancée is hoping for a very simple four prong, white gold setting with a 3mm square/flat ring profile which would accommodate a flush sitting wedding band. Furthermore, she would also prefer a low sitting ring setting that wouldn't be in the way of her active lifestyle. She likes this setting (http://www.adiamor.com/Engagement-Rings/Solitaire/Flat-Edge-Solitaire-Setting-30mm/18KWhiteGold/941) but he is not sure if the setting is low enough and if the setting would allow a wedding band to sit flush.

They are willing to buy the stone and ring online as long as the the store ships internationally. Any help with finding a suitable princess cut stone and a ring setting would very much be appreciated so that this lovely couple could get the most bang for their buck :)) .

Which country are you in? Just thinking that import duties and/or taxes might take a chunk out of the budget, so it might be helpful to only search suppliers within your country.

My friends and I know that import taxes and VAT will take a chunk of the budget but because there are virtually no real suppliers in our country, the costs of the ring are still smaller when bought abroad than from our country. Good suppliers in the EU would also be welcomed since buying inside the EU would mean no import taxes and VAT.
