Hi all,

I am considering purchasing this ring. The seller is saying it''s a G and SI1 and is 3.25 carats. I am awaiting the detailed specs? What do you think of the pixs? Please chim in....

I''ve never uploaded pixs so hope this works!

Thanks a bunch!

Here''s another....

There''s more pictures and much better looking but I can''t seem to upload them.....

Hon, we really can''t judge anything by those two pictures.

We need A LOT more information first, including all the numbers, more pictures of the stone''s pattern, price, who you''re buying it from, etc.

If it''s from a private seller, which it sounds like it might be, GET IT APPRAISED independently first.

Well, I''m no expert, but I do think it is a pretty ring. Like Neatfreak said, it''s hard to judge anything from a photo, but I do think the stone looks a little warm in these pictures to be a G (though maybe it is the lighting and the size of the stone). Really hard to tell, but please let us know what you find out!

Thanks Neatfreak -

I will get more info and include it as soon as I get it!

I''ll be back......Thanks!

Looks like a good prospect. And you''d be amazed what appraisers can tell you, even mounted in a setting. Could be well worth the time to have a professional eye take a gander at that rock.

Thanks Siamese Kitty....

I think it''s pretty too. The other pictures that I have show less of a ''warm'' color but I can''t seem to upload them....Ugh!

But I''ll come back with more info!

I agree that we need more info (for example, table, depth, angles, which lab certified it as G/SI1), but it looks pretty from those photos! It certainly doesn''t look like a horrible stone. I''m not loving the setting, though. Too "boxy," and the center stone is way too high for my tastes. I normally love tapered baguettes too!

Hello....

Can anyone tell anything from this picture? Does it show light leakage, or anything else?

The owner is looking for the appraisal but says that it''s 3.25 carats G, SI1.

Thanks!!

I might be wrong but I don't think a photo like that is going to be enough to help at all, too many unknown variables, reflections, etc. If you can't get all of the detailed information then I don't think there is going to be anyway to make a real scientific decision about the stone, which it seems like you are trying to do but in a real roundabout way.

I would suggest following the advice of others, having it appraised and having an expert look at it

with a diamond this large I am sure that you can come up with some creative way to measure it just to see if it looks worth it, and if it looks like you are getting into dimensions that might be close to ideal then I say have that sucker taken out and send him to whatever lab or top of the line appraisal you can get done. I mean this is going to be an expensive purchase no doubt, a very expensive one. You wouldn't buy a used car without taking it to a mechanic would you? in the same way, send it off to the experts and get a real report on it. Tell him you will pay for the reports and appraisals if you don't want to keep it, what will it cost you 1% of the price? maybe .5%?

but before that, and MOST importantly in making your final decision, take it to a jewelery store and compare it to other diamonds. In the end the numbers are there to help you make a decision as to what looks good, but If it is beautiful to you, sparkles enough to make you happy, is big enough satiate your obviously enormous appetite (3+cts), has a pleasing color and is in the sweet spot for the dollar amount, then there is really no need to over think the matter too much.
Nonetheless for a purchase this size you should still do everything, it will be an insignificant percentage of the total cost of the diamond purchase, whether it be this one or a different one.

I can''t tell much abt light leakage here, but what I can tell is tt the princess is more rectangular than square. Is that something you want? Experts, correct me if I''m wrong, but I do believe tt there''s a higher chance of more light leakage when a princess is rectangular.

Great advice from you all and I truly appreciate it!

Workinghardforsmallrewards - You are so right....If the appraisal is not located I MOST certainly will invest in getting it appraised on my own. I love the comparison related to buying a car!!! You are oh soooo right!

and for those who get confused like me, I checked to see just how rectangular it was. This isn''t exactly the most accurate means of measurement, I am sure, but this is what I found, looks pretty rectangular

I got confused late at night

sorry, but now on reviewing my comments I realized I should have said, it looks quite square in fact, but a bit off (though as we know, squares are rectangles

) Honestly though, I would take it out and send it to AGS, no reason not to is there? But me, I love the AGS report, have you ever held one and looked at it? Really makes the diamond seem more valuable

I keep editing my comments, but also, I say take it too your own mechanic ;)
