I''ve been looking at a lot of diamonds on BlueNile and I''ve narrowed down my selections to a few that I think are good based of reading various post here and other sites. The 2 things I''m concerned about is the girdle thickness and also size

One diamond I found is a 1.10 cw with a girdle of medium to thick. From what I''ve read you want the girdle to be between thing and slightly thick. Talking to a BlueNile representative they to avoid extremely thin and extremely thick and try an stay within 3 thickness ratings. I take what they tell me with a grain of salt since they ultimately want me to buy from them. Since I can''t actually see the diamond and see which parts are thick should I just stay away from this diamond?

This is the link to the actual diamond: Diamond 1
I like everything else about this diamond (with out actually seeing it of course)and I thing it would give my GF the "bragging" rights she wants with her ring

My other question is how much noticeable size difference is there between a 1.10 cw and say a 1.08 cw
This is the second diamond I''m looking at: Diamond #2

Thanks for the help

I may be totally wrong here, and I am sure someone else will chime in, but I think in a square or rectangle stone, a thicker girdle is not necessarily a bad thing. I think that if its too thin, you run the risk of chipping it during the setting process. Thicker gives you a little extra strength. Like I said, I may be off on this, but this is my general understanding. If I am wrong, anyone, feel free to correct this. Good Luck!

ETA--you really won't notice a size difference between 1.08 and 1.10. Its a very minimal difference.

There is around 0.1mm difference in size between the two stones. One tenth of a millimetre. I doubt you''d notice the difference :)

As for the girdle - you need some thickness in the girdle as Princess cuts can chip easily in the corners. However, a girdle that is too thick ''hides'' the weight of the stone : ie you pay for a 1 ct stone, but it may face up slightly smaller than average. I guess it also depends on the setting you chose. If it''s a bezel setting that will protect the edges of the stone, then you can go for a thinner girdle. If you are using a claw setting, I''d personally go for a slightly thicker one.
