Another question for the knowledgeable pricescope crew: Some of the princess cuts I pull up online have a specific number to them I have never seen before. A .98 princess I saw said it was a "4.6 SQUARE", what does that mean and is it bad or good? Another one said "1.2 SQUARE". What are the ideal ranges for a princess cut stone.

Not sure, 5mm x 4mm = 1.2

But 4.6 would be 4.6mm x 1mm - that does not exist.

It was odd it had all of the measurements but to the side of the listing were vendor comments. I saw 4.6 square, I think the stone was .98 points. It was the vendors personal notes I guess but I have never seen it before. I didn''t know if it was some kind of separate grade for princess cut stones.

4.6mm square = about .55ct to .60ct in a princess cut

I have no idea what it means, and I eat princesses for lunch.

It''s simply how much bigger the Longer side is than the Shorter side (as a percentage).

ie. (L-S)/S x 100.

Maybe it’s some sort of stock code for who their supplier is, when they first listed it or some similar non-gemological property. I see they list an 800#. Ring them up and ask them. Let us know what you learn.

Checked a few, and you are right. So 4.4 stands for a L/W-ratio of 1.044. 4.6 stands for a L/W-ratio of 1.046
