I would appreciate your input on a certin diamond I recent looked at. The specs on the stone that I can remember are as follows...

1.00 carat Princess cut
H color
VS1 clarity.
Table % 73
Depth% 78
Measurements: 5.19x5.20x4.08

They said I can get this stone for about $4500+tax. I think its a pretty good looking stone myself but in my reaserch I have seen other stones on this as well as other websites for a bit less. Is this a fair price for this stone? Also its GIA certified.

I also went to Ben Bridge and looked at a .98 carat princess cut stone. It looked great in the store as my girlfrined and I really liked it. Come to find out that its not certified and all I have to go on is its H color and SI1 in clarity. Thats all the information they can give me on it. It is also $4500. What do you guys think?

at the top of the page use the search function you will see ALOT of H VS1 diamonds that come back in the $3900-$4200 range from pricescope vendors.

Thanks for your reply.

There can also be significant variations in price due to the cut quality. Don''t go on the color/clarity/percentages alone! You will pay more for a well cut stone, all other things equal, then a poorly cut stone. The cut is really important to making sure it sparkles nicely.

Also, I''d be careful buying a stone without a grading report unless you are really well educated on what you are buying and you can bring it to an appraiser and then return it if it doesn''t appraise well. The stone could have problems, like an extremely thin girdle, that you and I cannot tell, but that a grading report or an appraiser would reveal.
