Hi everyone,

I''m a first time poster on this board and I''d like to say that this forum is very helpful for people, like myself, who know nothing of diamonds.

I''ve done a lot of research on the pricescope forums and bluenile so I am aware of the 4 C''s. Based on that, I continued to expand my knowledge by searching for Princess Cut information.

After researching for two days, I began tallying outstanding questions and I was hoping for some experts to help me out.

Here are my takeaways from the forum:
  1. The depth% should be lower than table% for a princess cut - still unclear if this is the case. I''ve received different opinions on this.

I had my eye on this diamond and thought it would be perfect:

    But
the depth% is greater than the table% so now I''ve lost some confidence in my research.

I do plan to visit jared''s as per the suggestion made by lorelei to view their princess cuts. I''ll be honest and say that I have not been in stores to view diamonds so I think this is a step in the right direction.
  2. Also I was pretty sure I''d order from bluenile but after reading additional forum posts, it seems that ACA princess cut diamonds at whiteflash should be the way to go especially if i''m ordering online.

One last point: I shouldn''t only count on GIA as I''ll need the AGS 0 grade to legitimize the quality?

Feedback is much appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Depth should be greater than table. But can still be bad, best to see an ASET image for fancy cuts like a princess cut.

AGS is the only lab that grades princess in cut performance, so if buying blind that is the safest bet. Even GCAL is only grading the BN Signature Ideal princess from proportion factor. But there are some GIA stones that are great performer so if ASET image is available, no need to exclude GIA graded stones.

Other branded cuts you should look into are CraftedbyInfinity Princess carried by NiceIce and HighperformanceDiamond and GoodOldGold Signature Princess.

Hi dnoob!

If you could view some diamonds in person that would be a big help. Generally it is preferable to have the table % less than the depth yes, ASET and detailed photos are needed as you know to judge a Princess but regrettably BN don''t offer images, in these cases it is really buying blind and all you can do is hope you like what you see when you open the box. You can try AGS0 Princess from BN if they have any available, but really no way of knowing the type of Princess you will get.

There are some well cut GIA Princess out there but at this time they do not grade these shapes for cut quality, some vendors have hand selected GIA Princess chosen for superior optics so these are an option.

www.goodoldgold.com

www.highperformancediamonds.com

www.niceice.com

The above vendors sell top cut Princess which are in house.

sc, lorelei,

Thanks for the input!

I did not get a chance to go out to Jared’s but will probably do so tonight. After reading additional information regarding rounds, I’m thinking I may go with a round instead. I guess I should just simply state my specs out and get your opinion on which websites I should focus my attention on.

Thanks again and I’ll start a new thread on this topic.
