I visited a pretty high-end jewelry store that has a very good reputation. I was looking at princess cuts that were in the 3450-4500. They were .73 and .85 carats. I was told the cut was great and the color was E and F. Is $4500 a lot for only a .73 - .85 carat? The clarity on both were VS1-VS2. looking on some of the sites you guys speak about, like whiteflash etc. I''m starting to think that i would be paying too much. Could the diamonds I was looking at be that much better than those I see for less on the web for a bigger stone?? please advise.

Hi Newbie,

Well I don''t know a lot about pricess cuts, but this expert selection at Whiteflash:

0.81 carat Princess Diamond

Item Code: GIA14262512
Price: $3,027.00
Report: GIA
Shape: Princess
Carat: 0.81
Color: E
Clarity: VS1
Depth: 76.2
Table: 76
Girdle: ETK
Polish: Good
Symmetry: Good
Culet: None
Fluorescence: No
Measurements: 5.01-4.88X3.72
Length/Width: 1.03

Has similar clarity and color to the one you are considering...so maybe worth checking out. I''m in the process of buying my stone from Whiteflash (also an expert selection) and I think I got a terrific deal. I''m sure some other pricescopers that know a lot about princesses will chime in.

What does ETK for the girdle mean??

it sounds high to me but I have a radiant cut with slightly lower clarity (si1 completely eye clean) and D color and it was 2900 from whiteflash, it is gorgeous. I would recomend whiteflash to anyone because of the experience I had and the quality of their work.

ETK= extremely thick. I''m not saying I know anything about princess cuts though

, for me the expert selection at Whiteflash was my way of getting a nice stone without going through the hassle of figuring out if the numbers were nice (my stone is an RB). I just posted that stone as a general comparision of princess cuts of similar color and clarity

Way over priced. You can get a 1-carat E / SI1, GIA certified, for under $4,300.

Be cautious of the extremely thick girdle; it could mean that the stone will look bulky for its size. Usually, "extremely" anything (thin or thick) is not the best. Extremely thin can make the diamond harder to set and more prone to chipping and breaking. As for the price tag, it is, IMO a little steep, like everyone else was saying, look into whiteflash or perhaps goodoldgold.com. They tend to have awesome stones without the added cost, plus if you mention PS, you''ll receive a small discount. Good luck!

I agree with everyone! Check out Whiteflash, you can get a much bigger diamond for that amount of money especially if you aren''t set on an E colored diamond!
