Hello everyone!

I''m glad I found this message board! I need help in selecting a Princess Cut diamond. I am looking at one with the following:

5.97 x 5.95 x 4.22

1.18 ct

Depth 70.9%

Table 79%

Girdle THIN TO MEDIUM

Culet NONE

Polish EXCELLENT

Symmetry VERY GOOD

Clairty VVS1

Color F

Fluorescence NONE

This is a GIA cert so I do not have Crown Height measurements. The only thing bothering me is the table %. It is being offered at 6200. Should I consider or look for a better cut diamond. I viewed the diamond under the gemscope. Very clean but cut and brilliance is most important to me.

Someone help out this rookie!
I did print out the chart from www.gemappraisers.com, but would still like some input from the gurus out there!

Thanks.

That table is huge, but it is not the thing that bothers me the most: there are a FEW others which do. First of all the clarity: this is overkill - there is no visual distinction between your stone and a VS2 priced 2K lower. The parameters of the cut do not guarantee brilliance (there are no rules yet for a princess cut to clearly relate dimensions with light return). If you want the most visually pleasing stone (white clear and most sparkly). Get a princess graded for light return (something I saw at Good old gold, and at Princessplus - a branded cut delivering stones with light return evaluation). There might be other sources out there. F-G should deliver the same impression and VVS has no visual impact, just financial. With all these considerations in mind, at present, you have a relatively deep stone, with better color and calrity than your eyes can see and uncertain light return. If this corresponds with your goal, than why not, of course... If light reutn is your goal, than the above details apply.

Hope this helps, as intended!

I agree on the table being too huge. I showed my jeweler a copy of the cert and he basically said the same thing you did. I am aware that the VVS is just a rarity issue and does not visually affect the beauty and brilliance. One diamond I purchased is a VS1 and am very pleased with it.

Thanks for the info. I'll browse those sites you mentioned. I'll let you know if I come across any stones worthwhile.
