I am in the Process of buying a round diamond for an engagement ring:

Carat: 1.78
Color: G
Clarity: VS2
Cut: Very Good to Ideal
Price: $14800

I am stressing about spending this amount of money on something I know so little about. I anaylze contracts and costs all day at work so I know knowledge is power. To that end, I have done my research but I am looking for some expert opinions to help guide me through this process. My question is twofold:

1. Does this look like a reasonable price for the diamond I refer above? If you need more specifics I can get those in another 3-4 days
2. Should I come down a bit in size to improve the color? I do want the most size for my money so if there is little difference b/w an F stone and a G stone...I''ll stick with the G. However, I do not mind coming down to 1.68 or 1.7 if I can get E/F color if the experts on this board feel color is that important.

Other thoughts/ideas here?

Thanks in advance for your advice.

there is not enough infor on the stone for members to give their opinions. does the stone come with a cert ? if so ,by which lab ? ask the vendor for a sarin report.as for color choice only you can answer that question,PS member''s buys beautiful "cut" D-K color stones.

CUT CUT CUT CUT CUT! What you''ll find is that Cut is the "C" that''s most important to the diamond nuts on here. You never mentioned cut and that is a big red flag. To be honest, color and clarity are extremely hard to tell if they''re just one grade apart. Well, clarity should be eye clean up to the SI range so some people drop down that far to get other specs they want.

Since cut is the most important, people will want dimensions and various angle % to get an idea whether that''s a good diamond or not. An ideal scope image will help too.
