Hello all,
I''m new here, so I hope I''m posting in the correct discussion. I recently visited a jeweler in NYC''s diamond district, and he quoted me a price for a custom ring.
The ring is 14K white gold band (5mm wide, about 6 grams), channel set, with three 30-point round cut diamonds in the center channel (FG, VS1-VS2), alternating with 4 rubies (same size). None of the stones are treated, enhanced, or coated. Above and below the channel will be a row of 15 one-point diamonds, for a total of 30 one point stones, same grade.
The price quoted was $2100, which includes free shipping (no sales tax), the setting, the certificate, and jewelry box. I saw the stones last week. It''s the first time I''ve seen loose stones and was surprised at how small they seemed
I did get a quote from another jeweler for the same design, but with 20 point diamonds in the center and matching size rubies. He quoted me $3200! The NYC jeweler said the difference is partly because he sells mainly loose stones and has no jewelry store/showroom overhead. His office was just that, a few small rooms. He also deals in bulk, as opposed to a small custom jeweler.
Does this sound reasonable? I appreciate any feedback, thank you in advance!
