Are the prices on oec, old miners and antique cushions lower than modern day cuts? I looked on one site and it appears so.

Also, all the oec''s were small, .50, and under. Do you know why?

And - do you PSers prefer oecs or old miners? I''m leaving antique cushions out of that question as I think most people would say that.

Thanks.

Sonoma, it''s not necessary to post the same thing on different areas of the board as it gets confusing as to where to reply. I mentioned on the other post that this topic has been brought up many times lately and if you do a search you will find a lot of threads discussing this which will no doubt answer your questions...Happy reading!

Ack, sorry. You know, I put both questions up and then went back to check and could not find the first set. I thought it just did not go through so I redid them. SORRY. Let me go do a search and see where my first set of questions went to.

Apologies.

Will you say which site you looked at? If it was old world diamonds then yes, the first page of OECs are all under 1/2 carat...but the following 30 or so pages aren''t. There are fewer OMCs and cushions so those don''t span so many pages.

As far as lower prices, it really depends. Older stones in a larger carat weight with very few inclusions and a high colour can be incredibly hard to find making them more expensive than other older stones. Like any stone it truly depends on cut, clarity, colour, and size as to how much someone is asking for them.

As far as what people prefer, it really depends on the individual as it does with the shape of any stone. I''m a fan of OECs with large cutlets myself. I like the symmetry of OECs as compared to the OMCs. I like cushions as well, but I''ve seen very few older cushions that I''d like enough to take home with me.

Thanks Addy. Actually, at that site, I just found their larger oec''s.

Thanks for your input. Although I preform a search on most topics before I post I did not see anything where antique lovers said if they preferred oecs or old miners. Thanks for giving your opinion on that.

Sonoma, I was actually referring to the issue of previous threads discussing at length, the issue of whether or not old cuts are cheaper than new cuts of similar 4Cs...As Addy already said, well cut old stones are in the same price range, or higher, than modern counterparts because they''re less of them.

The issue of whether or not people prefer OMCs or OECs...I think people have their preferences just as varied as any other cuts and for as many reasons. For me, I prefer a gorgeous OEC/Transitional Cut because I prefer the symmetry of later antique cuts because they have a larger table, shorter crown and are closer to the proportions of modern RBs, but with the fabulous chunky monkey facets that are so unique to them.
