hello - long time lurker, hehe....after 2 years, finally rolling up the sleeves and seriously shopping for a rock with the bf. yay!

While my search is geared towards asschers & ags000 princesses, I called this one local jeweler and he has a jubilee that I''m interested in. No pics yet (he says his ''internet'' is down). But what do you think about these measurements? I''ll post pics as soon as I get them. Please feel free to share your thoughts and/or comments. It''s a lil out of our $ range, but I think we could talk him down (but how much down is another question):

1.05ct
H color
VVS2
Table 61%
Depth 70.1%
Crown Height 14.9%
Pavillion 43.6%
Pol EX
Sym EX
Fl none
Culet none

$8990.

The jewelers indicated that this jubilee is rated by GCAL..... has anyone heard of GCAL???? is that even a good lab?

Thanks guys & gals!!

I know nothing about Jubilee''s... That said. Polish and symmetry are perfect and H color is great. Is the VVS necessary? Most on here would prefer to spend the money on a bigger stone or better color by going down to VS or even an eye clean SI. Maybe if you stepped it down as far as clarity is concearned it would be in the budget. Don''t settle! Have you seen the close out Asscher''s at Pearlmans? Thay are fantastic! If my BF liked them that''s what I would be buying!
Oh.. And congrats on starting your diamond search! Good luck and keep us posted.

A Jubilee is a branded stone which isn't being cut anymore so I understand that the selection is probably pretty slim. Being a previous owner of a Jubilee as well (upgraded mine to a cushion), I know that they are all very well cut. A GCAL cert is fine - that lab is reputable and the grading is accurate. There is talk of them coming back into production but I haven't seen/heard anything since then.

That said, this Jubilee appears to be an odd one where it is unusually deep. Most tend toward depths in the mid 60s. Still, they are very beautiful stones - they have the sparkle of a round stone, with hearts and arrows, but with a square shape. You can't go wrong with them. If you really like it, it never hurts to try to negotiate better pricing.

I have a 1.05 ct. H/SI1 Jubilee and I think it is the coolest diamond I have ever seen. If you can get your hands on one, go for it!
