If Donald Trump were to be elected president, talk of impeachment will no doubt begin before he's even sworn in. And given 1) widespread disdain and distrust of Trump on both sides of the Congressional aisles, 2) concern expressed by many that a Trump presidency would be disastrous for the U.S and for the world, 3) Trump's proclivity to speak (and presumably act) first and think things through later, and 4) his apparent constitutional inability to heed advisors - there is a possibility that he might do something "actionable" sooner rather than later. Add to that his unwillingness to release his tax returns - is he hiding something other than bad numbers? - lawsuits already pending against him, and a disdain of others that could lead to workplace harassment claims... is there any chance that Trump's presidency would survive a full term?

So... how long might President Trump last, and what might do him in.

Although this is a potentially serious subject, maybe we can have some fun with it for now!

Because the wheels of justice grind slowly, let's say that your "vote" indicates when a serious action leading to the "firing" will be underway. In other words, if you thing serious impeachment proceedings will be underway within the first year of the Trump presidency, choose the first option even though those proceedings could drag into a second year...

So - I think it could happen, but not right away. Chest-beating aside, when push comes to shove, Republicans will find the idea of taking such drastic action against one who bears their name so odious that President Trump will be given a honeymoon period and a pass, at least initially. And he'll try to color within the lines - or at least on the page - for awhile. But over time his narcissism will re-assert itself and he'll again ignore policy and legal advice... and Congress will become willing to consider impeachment. I'm guessing the impeachable act will have to do with foreign policy, and Trump's willingness to ignore international law.

I have been wondering this myself, as a European onlooker! He seems absolutely bound to be found not up to the job in some way. What would happen then, though? Does the VP just take over or can you ever do a re-election?

While a scary thought, I think he'd last a whole term, but in name only. I'm near positive he doesn't want the actual job. It'd really be President Pence. :errrr:

Very unlikely for that to happen.

I would like to think that the role of the president is carefully orchestrated by a large team of competent individuals. If that's the case, I would hope that a Trump presidency wouldn't have any catastrophic consequences. There have been other presidents throughout history that are somewhat comparable to Trump in terms of his temper, his outbursts, his lack of filter, etc. (like Andrew Jackson, John Adams, John Tyler, etc.), but you have to dig back pretty far in history to find them.

Two thoughts: first, I'm sure a President Trump would be surrounded by a large team of advisors - but they'll still selected by him and working for him. And he has a habit of not minding his handlers. Second, the presidents you cited did not have access to instantaneous national and international communications (often recorded in some way) as we have now.

But - half of the people who have responded so far seem to agree with you! :))

Snowdrop: The Vice President would be sworn in as President. Trump could have selected a running mate so extreme that he or she would give Trump some "immunity" from impeachment - Sarah Palin comes to mind - but I don't think most would consider Mike Pence to be that person.

^I understand what you're saying, but I wasn't necessarily referring to advisors. I was referring to all of the support staff that keeps the White House running smoothly. I would assume (maybe incorrectly) that a president doesn't hire everyone around him/her and that there are teams of people that offer support in varying degrees (and with varying expertise).
Obviously, a qualified team of individuals isn't going to completely alleviate the issues with Trump, but I would hope that it might help to some extent. I still can't take the risk, though, which is why I can't/won't support Trump (or Hillary for that matter).
