What, in your opinion, is the best sled around? DH and I have a huuuuuge sledding hill by where we live, about a block away, that all the neighborhood kids sled on. I''m guessing it''s about 200-300 ft of pure sledding enjoyment with a great view of the mountains! Anyhoo, my friend and I are going to test it out this weekend and are on the lookout for the best sleds out there! Throw me some ideas!! :) Anything will beat the cardboard fridge box we used to sled on back in Minnesota...we were in college and cardboard is free!!! lol

The plastic disc! Further slicked with wax paper!

how do you put wax paper on it? double sided tape? lol

I like snow tubes! Those hard plastic/metal discs or sleds hurt too much when you go over bumps in my old age! I need some cushion for these old bones

I haven''t been sledding for YEARS. I''m going to attempt skiing for the first time ever this month, I am nervous as h*ll.

Ummmm...the only sledding I''ve ever done was on a plastic tray from the Res Hall Dining Hall at Michigan...

The best thing were crazy carpets. It was a piece of plastic with handles to hold onto. You''d run and then jump on your knees and slide down. They were probably $5.

Some kids by us used something similar to what sunnyd posted. The ones we have are cheap plastic ones that you just sit in.

Last year, a couple girls used sheets of plastic.

Just about anything works!

have fun! Don''t bruise your bum.

Oh I think that is pretty much an expected guarantee :)

I agree with the plastic disc. Slicking it with waxed paper involves taking the waxy side of the paper and rubbing it until it starts to melt onto the bottom of the sled. It''s basically putting a very thin coating of wax on the bottom of the sled to further reduce friction. You can use the waxed paper on anything non-porous for a faster sled. It helps if you put it in the microwave for a few seconds before you start.

Have fun!!

Wouldn''t it be easier to just rub on a candle? If you have them, snowboards make GREAT sleds - just sit in between the bindings and WHEEEE!

When I was little my mom gave me a whole box of garbage bags for sledding. She''d ply about five bags to make one really thick bag, then I''d get in and pull the strings tight around my waist. Totally fun, cuz you can roll as you slide! Plus, it keeps the snow out.
