wish him and your family all the best.

SeaStar- so sorry to hear about your dad! It must be heart-breaking. I think it''s wonderful that you are a nurse, though. It means that you understand better what he is going through and can know better when to call it, with the knowledge that your dad would not want to continue on that way. He is lucky to have you as his advocate. HUGS to you and your family!

I''m so sorry SeaStar, my most positive and healing thoughts are coming your father''s way.

I am so sorry to hear this.

Many prayers outgoing seastar. I am so sorry. Big HUGS!!
Ditto, praying hard.

Seastar, liver problems are a B. I have stood in your shoes and I know it is a difficult, heart-wrenching time. Being a nurse is a good thing because you understand what the doctors and nurses are telling you and it all makes sense.. But at the same time you know too much to stay positive. I pray that they can get your dad''s sepsis under control, treat it, then put a new liver in that man. I''m sending tons of prayers and dust your way. Keep us updated when you can.

Thank you for all of your prayers. They had gotten him down to 60% on the vent but he had a bad night and is now back up to 80% FiO2 and up to 12.5 of PEEP from 10....this is bad, and means it''s taking more pressure from the machine to exchange air in his lungs and he needs increasing amounts of oxygen to sustain him...he''s also retaining over 5 liters of fluid with less than 10 ml/hour of urine and his lungs are wet...not responding to Lasix. They want to use Prisma CRRT to dialyze him as he''s really edematous. They believe he developed hepatorenal syndrome as a result of the sepsis, and that he has a touch of ARDS. I really don''t think he''s going to make it. I want to give him a fighting chance and say we did everything we could, but at the same time I don''t want him to suffer and drag things out when the end result will probably be the same. The intensivist hasn''t talked about withdrawing care and my cousin who is an ER nurse seems to believe he may be able to come out of this, but that it will take a long time. I just don''t know what to think, other than things really aren''t looking good.

SeaStar, I''m really sorry to hear this. My prayers go out to you.

My grandmother fell and broke her hip, got a fatty embolism, and developed ARDS. So, I know that it''s not easy to watch when they are in this condition. I''ll be thinking about you!
