Hi Pricescope friends!

On a whim, I bought a pair of round matched sapphires that are 4.5mm. I was originally thinking they'd be earring studs, but once I saw them, I decided I'd like to be able to look at them. ;-)

So, here's the dilemma: three stone or five stone. I'm leaning towards a five stone.

1. If I chose a three stone, with a finger size around 8.25 ish, what mm size diamond for a round center stone? I have an assher three stone already which leads to my thoughts on option #2.
2. I have a pair of diamond studs that are about 3.5 to 3.6 (caliper skills are not great). So, if those were on the ends, what size center stone then?? I dig the idea of a graduated five stone, but unsure of how big to go with the center.

I'm totally fine with a lab diamond for the center.

Thanks!

I’d do a 5.2mm center, which is half a carat in MRB, and set it in the graduated five stone with the earrings and sapphires.

Can you share pictures of the sapphires?

I like the idea of the 5 stone for the finger coverage. And agree, that something around 5.2 maybe even up to 5.3 or 5.4 would be good.

what color metal are you thinking you would use?

White metals look good with my skin tone, and I'm partial to platinum. My skin seems to eat away at rhodium, so white gold looks kind of beige.

Hi @BoulderGal

In case it's helpful, I had a Graduated 5-Stone Diamond Platinum Ring (which I sold last year) with similar but slightly smaller dimensions -- a 0.66ct 5.6mm center diamond, 4.3mm inner pair, and 3.26mm outer pair -- as compared to your 4.5mm blue sapphire pair and your 3.5mm diamond studs -- I thought seeing these proportions might assist in determining your own graduating proportions.

I really look forward to seeing your diamond & sapphire alternating band!

Oooo, I like those proportions!
Quick question, my current bezels are open at the sides. Do you find that yours with the "closed" sides changed the light return at all?

Well, let me put it this way, if I were to have David Klass make me another ring like this, I would definitely do bezels that are open at the sides.

The diamonds in my band were high-color BGD Super-Ideal diamonds, and they definitely faced up bright with a great performance ... but somehow only have a top view of the diamonds made the band overall less interesting to me. I thought about having it remade either with more open bezels or going with prongs (and in retrospect, I should have done this!) but other projects were more of a priority.

Got it! My three stone Asscher is open at the sides. One of the cool things I love about it is how it looks when the light can hit the side-it just glows. It notice it when I'm driving, and I "play" with it at stoplights. :lol-2:IMG_2308 copy 2.jpgIMG_2307 copy.jpg

Did someone say “bezels”!?!

I had my 5-stone ring set twice, learning from the first setting. The big sparkle differentiator (and bonus) is the open bridge. I wanted the ring to sit lower on my finger so replaced the solid band bridge with openings under the cutlets. This removed about 1.2MM in height. I also refined and opened up the decorative gallery.

The ONE thing I would change if I could is the euro-shank, which is annoying. I thought it would help keep the ring upright, which it does nothing of the sort on my finger.

I have a diamond and sapphire 5 stone. Yellow gold, in prongs, and not as graduated as you want, so quite different than what you are planning, but thought I'd post a photo anyway so you can compare the different looks of the settings. I had the diamonds already which is why there isn't more graduation. I was just trying to make use of them.

Ooo... That's really pretty-the prongs are nice and delicate.
