I purchased a 10th anniversary upgrade diamond and setting the other day from DCD based on lots of great things that I''ve heard on the forum. It will be here on Thursday most likely and I''m obsessing over this ring and everytime something remotely related to "diamond-speak" get mentioned (i.e. the roots of a tree being "girdled") my mind starts spinning and I wonder what the ring will look like and if I did the right thing.

I posted the specs earlier on my center stone (ags 1.245 ideal cut rb). Like an idiot, I forgot to ask for the firescope images prior to ordering the stone and now it''s too late since it''s already at the setter. I also didn''t have the stone sent to the appraiser first. I didn''t realize that set stones were not able to be as extensively evaluated....

Anyways, I''m sure that I will love the ring and my experience with DCD has been good thus far, although it wasn''t like the heavens opened and Jim Schultz dropped down a diamond for me like some experiences some other PSers have had.

My whole conversation with Josh lasted around 10 minutes since I was convinced I had found a great stone. There wasn''t a whole lot to say, except, "it''s great." It scored 0.7 on the HCA tool and was part of their Signature Series Ideal Cut stones.

To make a long story short, I''m just ruminating, but when I look at pictures of the stone it looks funny (assymetrical?) Do you think it''s just a bad picture? How could it score so well if it was really off?

I actually can''t believe I am posting this. I should just wait for the ring to come, but since I have two days to obsess....here it is. What do you think?

The stone looks lovely....really...remember, that that picture on the web is magnified to a HUGE degree...I''ve never used DCD myself, but I''ve heard wonderful things and if your experience has positive, then go with it and have sweet dreams about your ring showing up at your doorstep!

AChiO,
Thanks for such a quick reply. I do have faith in DCD, definitely, so I doubt they''d steer me wrong, but sometimes, it seems too good to be true and being a first-time buyer doesn''t help to calm my nerves. It just felt good to post and get it all out of my system.

Bummer for all you guys, though.

You''re right about the fact that I need to consider the magnification. Darn, I thought it was to scale!

Thanks again!

You''re welcome!! Glad I could help...you''ll have to show pictures when you get it!! Hand shots are mandatory!!

I see what you mean, but I think that is just how the picture was taken and the effect is magnified, I mean, it does list symmetry as ideal. It sounds lovely, and I''m sure it will be too when you get it!
Congratulations on your upcoming anniversary

picture looks good to me.
Its likely atleast close to true h&a.
The angles arent my favorite combo but it should be real nice in direct light.
It might be a little darkish in indirect light.
But even at that it looks like a great diamond.
Congrates!

i think it looks fabulous, the angles compliment each other well...table and depth are good as well, stone probably looks a tiny bit bigger than it is, always fun. the stone image itself looks very nice, crisp arrows. should be stunning in person.

don't worry..what i want to know is which setting you chose. is it one of the halo melee ones??

Mara,
No it isn't one of your favorites...I saw the post that you started on the halo melee settings...

. While I thought those were beautiful, they really aren't me (although I could give it the old college try if pressed

The one I chose was this which is totally me.

I searched and searched on this forum for a handshot of something like this but didn't find it. Of course, I've spent my budget on the ring and can't get the wedding band right now, so I'll look engaged...again...I've never worn a wedding band.
1.gif
I think it'll be o.k., though.
Josh said the band was about 4mm which might be all I need anyways. I have pretty small hands.
The only thing is that I'm a little worried about how high the ring will sit, but we'll see. Right now I have a 0.75 ct e vs1 rb in a half-bezel setting which I love, but it will most likely go into the safety deposit box since it doesn't fit on any OTHER finger on either of my hands! I'm really used to the low profile of the bezel setting, so I hope I don't do something stupid and bend my prongs or chip the diamond the first day I wear it.

Thanks for all your comments and reassurance! :) What's important was that we avoided having to purchase at Tiffany's.

My husband said he went in to compare and comparable rings were selling for $15,000-$24,000!

(although that seems like a pretty big spread for comparable diamonds.)

nice diamond choice!

Wow, I know exactly how you feel. I think I''m in a similar situation, although I only have to wait one more day to see my diamond for the first time....in a setting.

The numbers for your diamond looks good, don''t just go on the online photo alone, wait till you see it. Looks really good so far.

Oh, that ring is so pretty! Love the whole effect! Can''t wait to see the hand pictures!

Oh I think the stting is just wonderful!! I have heard great things about DCD while snooping around here. I cannot wait to see your beautiful creation. PLease be sure to post pictures.. It will be here sooon!!!!

Make sure to post hand pics! Looks like the stone will be a beauty!

Thanks for all your encouragement and kind words!!

Hopefully this will post. I''m practicing the file uploading thing until I get the upgrade ring in the mail.

This is a picture of my current ring--center stone 0.75 e vs1 rb. I go through periods where I think it''s plenty big and periods where I think I could definitely go larger (which I did.

Oh my goodness, that''s huge! Looks like about 50-70kb would be a better size to post. Ignore my gross non-manicured hands, please.

Belle thank you, you''re such a help and I am a chronic lazy!!! (I like to think I''m ''pressed for time''!!!!)
