I'm not an expert so I won't dare to comment on your diamond but I LOVE your avatar.
Is that Tacori? Natalie K?
Beautiful!

No it is not Tacori but I think it is similar. I like how it has the hearts inside the shank, even though no one will see it

Fancies are tough. Even experts would be hesitant to say go for it without seeing the stone. I am not an expert by any means. I really cannot tell from the pic of the cushion what to tell you. I''m sorry. As far as the asscher, I will pm strm. he is our resident asscher guy. He makes a study of them, and if something is glaring from the numbers, he should be able to tell you. I''m sorry I cannot be more help. Also, repost those asscher numbers here.

Its way too shallow but you never know until you see the pictures.

I dont know much about cushions so cant help you there.

I have sent them an email requesting a photo of the actual asscher so we''ll see. I will post if they send it to me. Who would be good to ask about the cushion?

Hi Lynell

I am by no means an expert on cushions, but then again is there such a thing as an expert on cushion?

I recently bought a cushion and did research for a while, but when I chose my cushion I did it without a second thought to specs, because I loved how she looked! What I am going to write here is only my opinion. In the end you will have to decide if you like the stone or not. (Trust in your vendor goes a long way as well)

You can find my cushion quest on PS, see the links. I had to choose between two excellent cut cushions. I received photos of one and absolutely loved it, but I kinda forgot that it is a 40X photo...in person I did not like the stone a t all. Another vendor was very accomodating and send a cushion to an appraiser and I was able to compare the two stones. Without a doubt I immediately fell in love with the one of which I had no photo, Idealscope or Sarin report. This stone "spoke" to me most and was chosen. You can find my story here: VG but not the one

If I had to chose between the two cushions you posted, I would definitely go for the E/VS2. Why? Because in my opinion the F/IF is much too shallow! Diamonds are all about light return and if a stone is very shallow, it can not reflect the light properly and you get a "dead" stone. Better light return = looks bigger as well.

At the moment I have a F/VVS1 stone - it was bought before my education at PS - and my new cushion is a G/VS1. After what I have learned on PS, I will never pay the premium for a E/F stone or a VVS1/2 stone again.

I would recommend you do a search for posts about cushions on PS. See which vendor supplies the most cushion around here and contact him - chances are that if others have trusted his eyes, so can you, because in the end is how the stone looks that matters. (PM me if you want the vendor I worked with name, but you will see that Cushion Man is very well known and respected at PS)

Another opstion is to do a search of the PS database. Vendors here have a reputation to uphold and can be trusted. But remember even if you do a search on the PS database as well as on a vendor''s website for cushions and you may not find anything in your price range / required specificatios - it is a virtual database and some vendors will have stones in stock that is not listed on the database or may help you find one. It is best to contact them.

Good luck

Maya- Thanks for your iinput! I wish we had the extra money to have the jewelers send the stones to an independent appraiser. It would cost 50 bucks each for them to send it and then whatever the appraiser would cost for us to look at them both under his guidance. We also don'thave the money to buy both and send back the one we don't want. We barely have enough for the ring. The budget is 2000 max for the diamond.

Your cushion is very pretty!

Look, this is pretty shallow allright. I can''t possibly know if you will like it like this or not, but these relatively shallow cuts have a rather distinct look. At best they reflect light much like a mirror - without much ''fire'' but bright white in strong light. The real downside is that they do not look too impressive normal lighting, much like a chip of glass. The setting can help allot with this though. Even though the diamonds are not bright enough to stand out, something that ''frames'' them heps show their size. High open setting do allow light from the pavilion and do help any diamond look brighter but only if there is strong light to go around. In normal (office and home) lighting, this does not work, quite on the contrary, IMO.

Honestly, I don''t hate these stones at all - they look ''vintage''. But then, I also like rose cuts that do not have any brilliance to speak of.

Just my 0.2 opinion, as usual. It may help to see an asscer / square step cut with more traditional proportions (not to say a branded Royal Asscher) for refference before paying for this one.

Valeria- Thanks for your 2 cents. My boyfriend ended up not liking the specs on that one either (I definitly want it to sparkle, I like the prism effect) so we are considering a little more expensive and smaller spread one.

Stock number: Z0092254
Measurement: 5.11 - 5.09 x 3.20
Carat weight: 0.63

L/W Ratio: 1.00
Depth%: 62.9%
Table%: 70%
Symmetry: Good
Polish: Very Good
Girdle: Thick to Very Thick

Fluorescence: None

It is $1866 compared with $1530 for the cushion. Thoughts?
