Litigator - I can relate totally!

I even used to screen new moms in the hospital for the signs and symptoms.

Definitely sounds like PPD - more than baby blues (several weeks to yrs. post-partum)

This occurs in 8-15% off all births and hormones/biochemical factors mainly responsible.

Don''t worry you don''t have PP psychosis (Andrea Yates type).

This should respond to Rx antidepressants and therapy.

Most OB/GYN''s in my opinion are clueless or disinterested as they sorta drop you as a pt. after the delivery (BTW most no nothing about breastfeeding as well!)

Make sure they rule out thyroid or other medical concerns.

You may have to do some advocating for yourself.

I am at risk since I have primary depression w/ anxiety attacks. I have to go off many meds when pregnant.

I had the "baby blues" after deivery but went back on meds fairly quickly.

Perhaps another SSRI would help or an aytipical andidepressant w/ anaxiolytics would do the trick.

Please keep us posted.....

I don''t have much advice to offer, but I wanted to tell you I''m sorry you''re going through this and will be praying for you.

LC, thinking of you.

Please know that those who love you are more patient and understanding than you might think. When you are in a calmer place, sit down and tell those in your life whom you are worried about having alienated that you love them and hope they can understand where you are. You might be pleasantly surprised how resilient people are when they love you and want the best for you. It all works out in the end but you concentrate on you now and helping yourself through this tougher time. They will just have to be along for this ride, and once you feel stronger emotionally, it will all be fixable then. Just do not overfocus on others right now, and concentrate on you.

Everyone - it always shocks me how a diamond forum can be my safe place for so many other things. Thank you so much for your hugs, support, and kind direction.

I say my family doc yesterday, and I am just so lucky to have such a great doctor. He has this great bedside manner that is just so perfect for my situation. In any event, he says it certainly sounds like postpartum anxiety/depression, and he almost apologized for not picking up on my anxiety sooner. In any event, his treatments is an SSRI and therapy. On the SSRI front, we are starting with Lexapro (Cipralex in Canada). I hope it helps soon.

Thanks again. You are all very special people for taking your time to help me.

I''m so glad that you have a responsive doctor who you trust, and good for him for apologising for overlooking your anxiety! Many docs would just get defensive or ignore it.

I hope the SSRI''s give you some relief. That is what my friend uses and it has made a world of difference when she really needed it. It can take a while to kick in, so give it time.

Keep us posted!

LC I''m glad your on the road to feeling/getting better.

It doesnt hurt to try meds, if you dont like how you feel on one you can try another.

HI:

Keep well and in touch.................

cheers--Sharon

Thanks everyone. I have taken a bit of a break from most everything for the past few weeks. It has helped a lot, and I feel like the "snowballing" effect is subsiding. Work, home, everything has gotten under control. In short, things have been a lot better.

I feel like the combination of the Cipralex/Lexapro and the counselling is a huge benefit. I also have had great support from my mom, and now at last, from my DH. I feel like a new and improved LitigatorChick!!!

I''ll keep in touch, but I want you all to know how important and special it was to have all your support in a difficult time for me. This is a great community, and it means a lot to me.

Good to hear Lit Chick! I was wondering how you have been!

Thanks for all your kind words!!! HUGS!!!

Glad to hear things are looking up! Life is full of bumps and curves, and knowing when to ask for help is one of the keys to navigating them safely. Good for you Litchik!

hi LC...for some reason i didnt see this thread the first time around, but im glad to hear that things have gotten better and you''ve got more control over things =D

Thanks everyone. It was super scary to realize I needed help (I''m LitigatorChick, I kick butt), but now that I have gotten the help I needed, I am starting to feel like I can be completely liberated from this thing. There is always this stigma with mental issues, and people have strong views. It is just great to have so much support from friends, like everyone on PS!

This is very true, it is bad enough that people suffer with anxiety, depression, panic etc. without having to also deal with judgemental and unresponsive doctors/family/friends.

Glad you checked in and that things are better!

LC, you''re right. I went to this training recently and it said that lawyers are the worst group of people in dealing w/their own mental health. It said that we are even higher than musicians/artists b/c at least their bad habits are pretty much out in the open, i.e., alcoholism, drug abuse, etc... As lawyers, b/c we are more intellectual, we tend to feel like we can handle everything on our own so we don''t seek out the help we may need. And of course, if we can''t handle it, we feel like we should be able to so we don''t tell anyone that something is wrong. It was actually one of the few interesting parts of the training. I''m glad to hear you sought out some help and feel better. Take care!

Hey LGC so glad to hear you are feeling better!

I have been dealing w/ depression since age 13 so I know PPD is right around the corner for me.

I am so happy you have gained some relief.
