I even used to screen new moms in the hospital for the signs and symptoms.
Definitely sounds like PPD - more than baby blues (several weeks to yrs. post-partum)
This occurs in 8-15% off all births and hormones/biochemical factors mainly responsible.
Don''t worry you don''t have PP psychosis (Andrea Yates type).
This should respond to Rx antidepressants and therapy.
Most OB/GYN''s in my opinion are clueless or disinterested as they sorta drop you as a pt. after the delivery (BTW most no nothing about breastfeeding as well!)
Make sure they rule out thyroid or other medical concerns.
You may have to do some advocating for yourself.
I am at risk since I have primary depression w/ anxiety attacks. I have to go off many meds when pregnant.
I had the "baby blues" after deivery but went back on meds fairly quickly.
Perhaps another SSRI would help or an aytipical andidepressant w/ anaxiolytics would do the trick.
