Possible JA diamond - thoughts?

Hi everyone,

Super new here and have a question about a diamond we found on JA. We found a diamond locally with the same specs but it's $7600 (plus tax) so I'm having some pause. I would ask for the Idealscope images, but curious as to your thoughts. I put it in the HCA calculator and the score was 1.3.

I intend on buying the setting locally, so if I have a diamond from online do you foresee a problem with them coming from 2 different places? I don't want to do anything that will jeopardize maintenance or insurance.

Oh darn, really? I wonder why it would rate so high on the HCA thing.

I am not one of the experts here, and I am sure they will chime in, but I don't believe that the HCA tool accounts for poor symmetry. It is only useful for assessing symmetrical diamonds.

Ahh...good to know. So when I look at the link, it says the symmetry is "Very Good." Should I only settle for Excellent?

Sometimes VG symmetry is ok if the defects are not noticeable to the naked eye.

That one is an AGS 0, so you are assured of a certain level of premium performance.

I also see the girdle for the AGS one is thin-medium. Not sure how this affects things.

Oh, AGS is a major lab, and it grades diamonds for cut. Ideal cut is 0. Thin-medium is good.

Any thoughts on buying a diamond one place and a setting another? I have concerns about liability, etc, and jewelers being surly about it too...

You can ask if the jeweler is insured for damage during setting.

Thanks! I'll definitely look into the b2cjewel diamond -- I'm just not as familiar with the company (I've gained some familiarity with JA over the past months). Though, my hesitation with JA is the upgrade policy. I'm not sure how often one takes advantage of that, but it does feel limiting.

B2C does not have as great of an upgrade policy as others... you lose 20% to restocking fee. On the other hand, B2C starts out cheaper than most other vendors, so its not as bad as it sounds.

Well, they report the diamond to be eyeclean. I guess someone else had them check this and a gemologist left a note on the account to this effect. He's getting me an Idealscope image but the diamond cannot be placed on hold as its an overseas partner.
