OK so I just *HAD* to share this with my fellow LIW since I know some of us are looking to shed a few pounds!

So things have been really hectic with school/work/research lately so I haven''t been able to go to the gym for the past two weeks (EEEEK!
38.gif
) Instead I''ve been really concentrating on drinking water, eating smaller portions and snacking on fruit instead of chips! I''ve found that it''s better to eat a small lunch and then have a piece of fruit two hours later then eat a large lunch and skip the snack. I know I''m just stating what we''ve all read in the magazines and stuff but I wanted to let you guys know that I''ve lost 6 pounds in a week and a half. no joke!

I love going to the gym and I''ve found that although I look better (and feel better) the weight doesn''t go away that fast for the first few weeks. I was REALLY surprised when I got on the scale this morning and saw that I had lost so much weight! So now when I go back to the gym maybe I can finally reach my target weight!

On a side note... it''s not that I used to shove my face with food or anything but bringing lunches from home (a great portion control trick), packing sandwiches and fruit really helps! Plus I''ve found that it''s easier to pack smaller portions in the morning when you''re not that hungry compared to trying to eat less at lunch when you are starving!

Just to give perspective I wanted to lose about 20 pounds ideally, 15 pounds realistically. To go from a size 4/6 to size 2 but really the goal is just to lose all the squishiness!

YAYYYYYYY!!!

congrats snow_happy!! I''m really happy for you.

I''m feeling really bad about the way I look lately and need to do SOMETHING. problem is, I don''t ever have a set schedule. Some days I am home all day, other days I have to grab a bite to eat between working two jobs, or find something on a lunch break when I get them. Packing a lunch is not a bad idea when I am going to work. I just need to know how to stop eating like a hog when I am home, or when FI and I eat. We stopped eating all fast food, at least the nasty burger chains.. about 2 months ago and FI lost about 12 lbs just doing that.. but not me! Its sort of just been replaced by Pizza and subs, which while they may be a little bit better, arent the best for me! It really is NOT realistic for me to get to a gym. If I joined I know i''d just be waisting the money. Its a 20 minute drive to all of them. I joined one about two years ago, and went for about 3 or 4 months and wasn''t losing any weight or inches, so I stopped going.. but of course paid for the whole year. I don''t even have that money to waste anymore.
I know that the way I can lose weight is by swimming, but there is not really anywhere for me to do THAT either.

But thanks for the diet advice! Congrats again on your weight loss!

Geez... miss skinny minny.
You''re tiny already!

I am doing this diet program where I have my food delivered to my door every morning. All portioned out for me and detailed when I''m supposed to eat it. They give me two snacks -- one for after lunch which is sweet, and one for after dinner which is savory. The strangest thing about this diet is that I''m supposed to have the second snack and hour before I go to sleep... everything I''ve read says, ''don''t eat after 8 PM!''

But... it seems to work. I''m not starving when I wake up in the morning and it really satisfies me when I feel like dinner just wasn''t enough.

ammayernyc--
This is the zone meals you mentioned previously? How long have you been on them? Have you seen much improvement?

My dress sizes are a little deceiving I think because I am really short!!

Melissa--
Crazy schedules are the worst for snacking! I definitely know what you mean about eating with your FI. I've been working on eating slower and giving half of what I would normally eat to my boyfriend. (He actually wants to gain weight so it works out!) I read or heard somewhere that most people actually eat double of what they need! So while my plate looks kind of sorry with a smaller portion on it I know that it's probably the right amount. Plus my boyfriend eats really fast so with the newly divided portions we finish eating at the same time! I've found that it's hard to change and it's even harder to accept the change but the difference on the scale is really encouraging!

Yes, this is the Zone Diet that I''m on. I only do it 5 days a week, so I''m obviously breaking with the plan a little. I just couldn''t do it to my bf... going out to restaurants is one of our favorite things. Although when we go out, I try to share which means that he eats 9/10 of his food and 1/2 of mine.

Portion control is very difficult -- I think the hardest part of a diet. All my dinners fit on a salad plate. That includes the meat, vegetables and starch. So now if I cook dinner on Sundays, then I know how much I should have. It''s very difficult to do that though...

My goal is to be able to try on bathing suits without throwing a fit in the dressing room.

ammayer--

salad plates! That is SUPER portion control. I like to pick the dinner plates and spread my food out really thin. :) I''m really interested to see how your Zone meals work out! I just heard about the whole delivery thing on the radio last week.

As for the bathing suits... who doesn''t throw a fit when they try bathing suits on! darn those fluorescent lights that make everything look gross! Not to mention I''m as pale as a ghost!!

snowhappy...the only real difference between a size 2 and 4 at least for me is HIPS. For whatever reason my hips started expanding a year ago and I wasn''t gaining any weight (apparently this a normal occurance during a woman''s mid-twenties), so I had to go from a 2 to a 4, but every once in awhile I get lucky and find a wider 2.

Salad plates do seem really small -- especially when my ''if-I-think-about-it-I''ll-lose-weight'' boyfriend has a full plate or about 100 pieces of sushi in front of him. Mmmmm... sushi.

They have the Zone delivery in LA I belive. It''s very expensive, but I think it''s worth it since it''s the only way I''m actually able to control what I eat. Also, it''s kind of fun... like getting a present every morning. I''m always excited when I open the door to see what I''ve gotten!

snow happy! That''s great news, good for you! Portion control is critical for me. I have a hard time with it because I used to have the metabolism of a hummingbird, and am used to eating as much as I want, plus more. That isn''t working anymore, but it''s hard to cut down without feeling deprived.

Change is hard I suppose and eventually it will become habit.

Snow_Happy... I tried that today. I packed me a cute little lunch to take to work with all kinds of little snacks that were supposed to last me all day. I had five snacks and a Lean Cuisine. All of my snacks and Lean Cuisine were gone by lunch time. Then, I starved for the rest of the day. How can I keep from eating it all at once?

My wedding is in 9 weeks and I need to lose about four pounds.

Windy--

I am tempted to eat my snacks early too but then I remember that if I do that I will die in the afternoon! I always find it helps to drink a cup of tea or have a big bottle of water next to me to drink instead of snacking!

appletini - The hip thing happened to me at 21.. I hated it.. I used to wear guys jeans! They looked GOOD on my little bony boyish no-hips body too.. ! won''t work anymore.. damn hips. I had gained a lot of weight around 18-19.. and lost it all around 20. So I was about the same size as I was in high school.. then all of a sudden, i turned 21 and all my pants started getting really tight and I couldn''t get them over my hips. It SUCKS.

here is me when I was teeeny. I really would like to be this small for my wedding. I wouldn''t mind weighing 5 lbs or so more than this on a regular basis, but for my WEDDING, i want to be a skinnymini

MS from all of the pics I''ve seen of you, you are still tiny!

windy - i second snows drinking tea or water. I keep a big glass of tea next to me all day. I read somewhere that sometimes when you feel hungry, it can be your body telling you its dehydrated. Another thing that helps me with snacking is something i have to eat a piece at a time... like pop corn or dry cereal or carrots or celery sticks. Because it takes longer, i can trick myself that im eating more when im really not. Also if you just ate a snack and still feel really hungry, get up and walk around the office, go talk to a co-worker... something to get your mind off of it.

One thing that I have also found that works is to eat slowly. Count to at least 10 between each bites. It''s really hard to gage how full you really are... it''s something you really need to think about.

I also set times where I''m going to eat during the day. I refuse to eat lunch before 12 noon even if I''m starving. After lunch, I only have one snack, so I wait until 4 PM even if I''m really hungry.

Hi Ladies..I am right there with you. Who doesn''t want to look and feel healthy?

MS....in regard to shifting work schedules...if you can''t get to the gym considering going for a walk every day. Then you can go first thing in the morning or late at night. Either way, it gets you out there for some fresh air, peaceful time & a little exercise. I used to run during the summer & fall, however winter has made it a bit difficult. Walking has been a great alternative. Consider inviting your fiance to go on a walk with you as well. It''s a lovely time!

A few things that I''ve noticed....drink a glass of milk with your main meals. Milk helps fill you up & it''s great for the calcium. Avoid processed food. Consider packing peanuts of some sort for your snacks. The protein is great & they are filling. Not to mention healthy! :)

One other item....as part of your focus on your health you may want to invest in seeing a good nutritionist that will review your current food consumption & help create a balanced diet based on your body type & needs. Combine this with your activities & you can''t go wrong.

Food for thought (pun intended), consider approaching losing weight as a way to become healthier & feel better instead of "weight loss". This truly is a lifestyle change about taking care of ourselves so that we live a long, prosperous life with our loved ones & can enjoy things at the age of 80 as we do today. Don''t know about you, but I still want to be able to travel around independently without signing up for the geriatric tours. hehe. :)

Ladies, ladies...hips widening is part of finishing becoming a woman! I don''t want to look like a boy or a little girl, my boyfriend doesn''t want me to look like a boy or a little girl, and I think most guys would say the same. They love us for our curves! Madison Ave would have us believe differently, but it''s true. And frankly, any guy that wants you to look like a boy isn''t a man.

Just had to say that in this whole slimming down thread, because it''s one thing to want to lose excess weight, it''s another to be at war with your body.

I got my hips around age 11. Got lots of junk in my trunk. I''ve learned to love the a-line skirt.

On another note... I had my lunch. It was relatively yummy and I was no longer hungry. Then, as I was walking to the restroom, I smelled somthing: popcorn. Someone microwaved some popcorn and that smell has reached every corner of my office. That''s all I can think about now. I just want some popcorn!

just have some! popcorn''s not that fattening.

I found that fidgeting helps you stay thin. Never sit still while working... unless you''re in a meeting or with clients, of course.
2.gif
Every 30 mins, get up and stretch, and when you sit, flex your stomach muscle, and lift your legs. Instant lower tummy toner! Also, swivel your chair from side to side while flexing... this helps tone the waist. When you''re on the phone, at the copier, fax, or just bored, stand up and flex your butt muscles, and do leg lifts.

These tricks all help!!

I wish I could have some popcorn... unfortunately, the smell lasted while the food didn''t. By the time I got to the kitchen, it was all gone.

I''ve been drinking a ton of water, so I get lots of exercise just getting up and going to the restroom!

I keep some of the 94% fat free popcorn in my desk drawer just for that or when i dont have time or anything to make at home. I have to admit, its one of my favorite things to eat for dinner too... FI thinks im crazy!

Amen Blue Chica! I couldn''t agree more! God grant us the wisdom to appreciate our curves! hehe.

Does anyone have this problem... I am super skinny... only 5''8 and currently 116 pounds, usually 112 pounds. I eat mostly whatever I want witin reason, and I go to exercise classes four days a week. My problem is that my stomach is always bloated and sticks out. I have a little belly that won''t go away. You can''t see it with my clothes on, but you can easily see it w/o from the side. I am very self-concious about it. It has to be what I eat!! How do I get rid of this?

I used to be a size eight, maybe ten, and I lost thirty pounds, and I am now a size one/two. I looked the best as a size six. I liked it much better being a little bit big all over then being super skinny with a little belly!!

I also have to lose the extra four pounds to fit in my wedding dress.

Windy - I have that problem too. While I am not quite as skinny as you, I''m failry small built.. but I ALWAYS have a belly. Even in that skinny skinny pic of me I felt that my belly was too big. (I weighed 108 there and am now hovering around 125)
Its not a "little" one either.. Its big and flabby and awful. My mother is the same way..Its just the way some ladies are I guess!!
But tonite I saw the FUNNIEST book. Its called "My First Wedding".. and its like a fake wedding planning guide.. There was a section in it called "Emergency Wedding Diet"
It was something like this
Breakfast
1/2 grapefruit
glass of milk

Brunch
Two breakfast burritos
Two apple pies

Lunch
Salad
Fruit

Snack
1 bag of doritos..
1 donut.. etc etc..

There was also a sensible dinner and then a BIG late nite snack. It reminded me SOOOO much of myself..
I really think I should buy that book, because it really makes you laugh at myself for being so crazy with wedding planning sometimes.

windy & MS --

Having the stomach thing depends more on what kind of exercise than what you are eating. Although maybe if you are not drinking enough water you can seem bloated? I''m not sure. If you go to the gym then try to do situps along the Balance Ball because it elongates your muscles as you work. Too many people do crunches the wrong way and puff their belly up during the contraction. This causes lumpy stomach muscles rather than flat stomach muscles. Contracting abs inward as if you are trying to drive them into the ground during a situp will help flatten your stomach out. Or so I''ve read ;)

To my fellow popcorn lovers--

I LOVE popcorn too! There are these Pop Secret - light butter single serving snack bags that they sell at the grocery store. The WHOLE bag is only 1 weight watchers point. I''m not on weight watchers but found that it definitely helps when trying to control portions. The regular size pop secret bags are only 2 points! So eat away just make sure it''s not the super movie butter kind ;) I like the natural flavor (no butter) with a dash a salt and squeezing lime over it.

I think I''ll go on a crash diet two weeks before the wedding.

I''m going to start eating Special K for breakfast and cut out the lattes every morning and drink the nasty stuff instead.

My fiancee is home this week (usually he''s out of town all week with work), so I''ve been eating so bad. We had Wal-mart friend chicken last night - which is so good if you''re going to be bad! And I had Mexican for lunch - soooo good.
