Diamond1shot you referred to Jim as the "JA rep". Just wanted to make sure you know, he is in fact James Allen, the man for whom the company was named, so your concerns have been heard by the top kahuna 8)

I hope you love the diamond!

:rodent:

Ravinmad: thank you for your input.

Everyone, I can't verify that the JA rep is he himself so I chose that language. I do hope it is the owner, although hard to imagine a very wealthy individual scrolling the net to respond directly to posts...companies have press teams to mitigate such damage. However, I do feel fully confident JA has heard my message and further dealings will be more smooth.

On a sad note, I got pulled into a meeting and looks like I won't be picking up my diamond until after work, sigh, but it will be soon!

Jim has contributed on these forums for years, I am pretty sure its him. Not sure how wildly wealthy he is either ;)) But maybe he will come and tell us?

Okay, so you are saying that even if you are wiring James Allen $20,000, they won't send you the diamond without another email address? I am pretty thankful that GOG and WF are happy to take my money without one! If they have your money, I am not sure what other verification they need!

Good luck with your diamonds 1shot and Ravinmad!

I think with the wire option things might be simpler. They did say the extra verification is required or needed with credit card orders as they have a large number of fraud attempts via credit card.

I know of someone who's dealing with this very issue but in a bizzare way. A diamond that was ordered on their card that was compromised and somehow the vendor opted/decided to ship to their billing address not the requested address... which happened to be out of the country, go figure. The packaged arrived unexpectedly, so as most folks do they signed for it and wow! its a diamond.

They are now dealing with now to return it because the vendor only would give them a P.O. Box to return it too and has hung up on attempted call backs. It is NOT, repeat NOT a PS vendor and infact I havent been told the name of the vendor/supplier as of yet but I'm starting on peek in/working on it but its truely not my business. Well, as this goes on this couple has a 2,200 charge on their card that they cant get removed due to "signing for the package" and etc.

I can feel the pain and am glad someone is willing to take a few extra steps with the credit card transaction trying to reduce fraud.

Thanks, Ravin! That makes much more sense that they would want to be careful with credit card transactions.

Not really. I bought my ring from JA with wired money. Because the shipping address doesn't match my bank account address (so I guess they are worried the bank account maybe hacked?) I had to provide my work e-mail in order to proof to them that it is me.

Ok this place won't let me upload a picture of the James Allen box it keeps loading something else...Anyways here is the first thing I saw once I opened the box, a GIA certificate and JA receipt.

Next was the Diamond, sorry this picture was taken in my truck with my cell phone. I looks great as is but once mounted i guess will make the biggest difference...we'll see. 20120229_175754.jpg

I said from onset of this ordeal I would change my tune if the stone is nice. I am not saying 100% perfect until my jeweler mounts it and gives the green light but I am now in the 90-95% happy range! The diamond was a great deal at 1.08ct and VS2! Great depth and table numbers too. I'll post more once everything is mounted, going to get done today.

Looks beautiful! Can't wait to see the finish ring. What type of setting did you choose?

My box/packaging was identical. I will post a picture or two of the stone in its tension holder tonight and then again once its mounted.

:appl: So glad you finally got it! It will be gorgeous when set in the ring!

Funny story about the setting...I am the guy (buyer) she choose a neat looking pave setting with princess diamonds total ct weight is like 1.13, then around the main stone is really small diamonds. I actually have this ring in my possession and was going to add this center stone....HOWEVER, she changed her mind and wants a different setting! So thank the lord for return periods I have to return the setting now and get a new one, which here in S. Dakota isn't always easy. She has no idea any of this is happening so I am mad but laughing at the same time...women haha.

Strange, I purchased my stone from JA with a wire transfer for the same reason as you did, and I didn't have to provide any additional information. I purchased my stone a year ago, so perhaps the procedure has changed.

I feel like I should say that my experience with JA was fanastic. I actually changed my mind about the setting three times, and they were more than happy to take it back and reset my stone for me and charged me $0 for shipping in either direction. My diamond and settings always arrived on the date they told me it would and on one occasion they happily changed the ship to date to an earlier date because I didn't have Fed Ex overnight saturday delivery and didn't want to have to wait until monday! I really can't say enough about them. I'm sorry though that the OP had some trouble, but I hope that now that you have your stone safe and sound (and gorgeous!) that you can appreciate the extra steps that were taken to ensure that both you and JA were protected.

Congratulation on your upcomming engagement! I can't wait to see pictures of the stone set!

Gosh, you need to show her settings from James Allen and let them set your stone! That way they are responsible for any damage! Plus, then the ring comes to you completed and ready to be insured.

But did the other ring come from the jeweler who will set the stone? If that is the case, that is okay. I was confused as to why you would have had possession of the other setting. You need to be sure the head and ring size are correct for the diamond and her finger size.

I know her size and actually the settings came from a local jeweler. I showed her James Allen and she didn't want those ( I think not seeing in person made her decision). I made the setting swap today and am getting the stone set, should be ready for pick up on Sat. It may have to wait as this weekend I have business out of town. Additionally, the jeweler is will replace the stone and setting if anything happens due to their negligent stone setting. The new setting makes the stone look a lot better too! I'll definitely post better pictures using my camera instead of my phone. My JA experience will end up a 4 star out of 5, barring I don't have to do any returns,I take a star away because they could of been upfront with not having the diamond on hand but they did make up for it with actual phone calls with very personable reps. Price was great so 5 stars there!

Yes, I understand ya'll love these things, and why I spent good money on it...I'll probably spend more too. She already wants 2 wedding bands to go around the e-ring...thus 5 rows of diamonds and a center stone. Oh lord, what am I getting myself into.

1 word if your not careful, its called DEBT :nono:

I would suggest getting the E ring, the wedding band, and then working the other ring as a 5 year anniversary present and tell her how are you going to suprise her with things if she gets them all up front??????

Yeah, I mean at some point you have to stop. Chasing the dream can lead you down a difficult path! My 1.52 asscher is a bit "smallish" for my taste and the 1.8 similar one is "only" 1,200k more... Lol... and if I go another 1,200 more..... The truth is, I totally maxed out on the 1.52 in terms of budget. I was originally looking in the 8k range and spent 12,300k.

You have to step away from the process or you lose sight of how much you are spending! I've been married 16 1/2 years and this is my upgrade ring. Maybe in another 16 years I'll do the blue nile 100% greater upgrade policy. Then again, I get a headache thinking about wearing 25k on my finger!

Best wishes!

WW

Yes keep her far away from here ;)

Its lovely! I think 5 rows of stones would over-shadow the center stone (just my opinion, you dont have to tell her) and
be just to much of a good thing.

Gorgeous!!!

Looks amazing on your fiance's hand - congratulations and glad it all worked out for you!

As for 2 diamond bands on either side of that ering - holy "OVERLOAD" batman. That would just be tooo much. Maybe its her idea right now, but if she actually tried it on after wearing that ring for a while, I hope she'd see that it would just minimize the beauty of what she has now.

Just my opinion... which was not asked for... but shared for free! :D

Beautiful! And ditto on the unsolicited advice re: overload.
Time for the mods to change the thread title? :)

I am glad other people agree that 5 rows is to much! Hopefully I can sway her opinion once she sees it.

Very pretty! But I will have to agree, that is a stand-alone ring if I have EVER seen one! A thin (2mm) plain white gold or platinum band is the only thing I would consider with that ring. It already looks like an ering with bands on either side!
