I'm very interested in finding out how most of us feel about settings. Please participate in the poll.

I think it all depends on the shape and the size of the center stone. For rounds I like it either as a solitaire or with pave/bead set diamonds down the shank. If it's a 3 carat or larger pear I like it with pear/trillion side stones. I love cushions with halos, but for small center stones I think sometimes a halo might overwhelm it if the proportions are not done right.

All of them do, which i bet is probably true for most PSers. But I would say a ring with colored stone accents. side stones or a vintage sapphire halo, things like that

My favorite look is what I have now with my upgrade: a large solitaire on a thin shank, paired with a dainty eternity band. Love, love, LOVE the look!

I love 'em all!! It is hard to pick, but at the moment, I am lusting over a halo with pave on the shank, so that's currently what I'm drawn to and voted that way.

(My normal draw is to a 3 stone and when setting my stone, I really had to fight the urge not to do yet another one!)

This was a hard one. I am sorta kinda wishin thinking about changing my setting, thus have been really looking with that in mind.

Generally, I'd have to believe it would depend on the complexity of the stone, size of the stone, shape etc. along with the personal tastes of the individual.

It was hard to pick just one, there are so many beautiful rings out there!!

What catches my eye most is intricate settings with pave, millgraining, colored melee, etc. Vintage, Art Deco, that sort of stuff.

What do I prefer to wear? A plain solitaire. I learned my lesson with my LM halo - my lifestyle doesn't suit ornate, despite how much I enjoy looking at it.

This. Pave, halos, always catch my eye! But my lifestyle is plain solitaire, plain band or diamond bands.

I just like three-stones. Everyone should have them because they're the best. More big stones! yYay!

A large solitaire always grabs my attention, you don't see many where I live.

Either a halo or a large solitaire.

Excellent point, JG!! I hadn't thought of that... as much as I confess to lusting over pave and halo, you're right - they are probably not the best for the lifestyle that I have. My 3 stone is perfect for me - coverage and securely made with less likely hood of damage because of how low set it is. I've lost stones from settings of mine that do have pave and yet, still drawn to them... it has to be the magpie in me!

The stone always catch my eye first, regardless of setting, then after that, I pay attention to the setting. I enjoy looking at all types of settings and find that certain shapes and sizes are best for certain types of setting. Some stones are better in 3 stone style setting, some are better in halos and some are best left as solitaires. I love all types but never wear anything ornate as it is not practical for my active lifestyle.

I love many different settings so all of the above. As other posters have written it totally depends on the stone itself. For a large ideal cut diamond a solitaire is my preference every single time.

+1

I would pick probably a plain solitaire with a diamond wedding band that has interesting details............. :naughty:

Everything catches my eye. My eyes are just drawn to women's hands to check out what they're wearing. My personal preference is for plain bezel and semi bezels-tho I've only seen a couple irl other than my own.

I assume you mean what catches my eye IN A GOOD WAY.

I love anything that looks right for the stone. I don't know how to explain it better than that. I have loved all styles, even ones I would not personally wear, when they suit the center stone.

I am not generally a RB person, so they don't generally catch my eye, especially in solitaires. But three stones and halos do.

In fancy shapes, all settings catch my eye... but the ones I like the best are the ones where the center stone and the setting are in harmony with one another. Unfortunately, sometimes people chose settings that just aren't right for their stones, especially with fancy cuts, and that always makes me sad.

Your particular set, is one of my favorite on PS period. I love the setting, the stone-- all of it. It's not the style. It's the ring itself. It's a gorgeous WHOLE PIECE. And that's what catches my eye the most, complete pieces where the elements are compliment one another.

Hi Gypsy!! Gee, thanks for such a nice compliment on my ring!! :) I cleaned it really good yesterday and I checked the Lab certificate and guess what? I thought it was a 7mm, it's not it actually measures: 7.19 x 7.20 X 4.21mm ...

 Me, too!

I really couldn't vote because I love beautiful, high quality rings in all of those settings!

Distracts, I did not realize this until you changed your avatar picture, but I got a setting this year that is VERY much like yours! I haven't posted it yet because it needs a (colored) center stone and I haven't found one yet.

A big, blingy three stone! I like three stone rings with a 2:1 ratio for the center and sides.

It's always nice to be positively surprised. :wavey:

I strongly prefer simple, plain bezels with a thin band. Or a bezel halo.

I voted "other" because what tends to catch my eye is a little more contextual than any of the options afforded. I think we all tend to notice the things that fit our preferences - it's a kind of self-fulfilling prophecy where, on some level, we consciously notice the things we approve of while the rest, we merely see.

I mean, me? I love vintage. And I STILL, almost two years later, remember the woman whom I saw at Zingone Brothers grocery store, wearing a beautiful delicate Edwardian filigree ring with a couple of sapphire and diamond bands. Perfection. And I still remember the lady I saw back in college at the local McD's, wearing what had to be a four carat emerald cut. So ... size of stone, or quality of setting appears to be what catches my eye. :rodent:

This!

I had to pick other...anything done well catches my eye and I can appreciate ALL of them (so I'm no help).

I've really been appreciating the antique look more and more lately.

love the plain solitaire I think!

variety is the spice of life! So glad we all love different things!
