Personally, I love both looks. The traditional 3 stone ring that has larger side stones for example, 1:2:1 and the larger center with smaller accent side stones. Both styles are lovely.
Just for informational purposes, the 1:2:1 ratio isn't even consistent because it is referring to weight and not diameter. So using diameter as the ratio can be used consistently with any size stones. Use the diameter in mm to get the combinations below.

You are always a wealth of knowledge, @diamondseeker2006. If I do a 3 stone with center 1.02 and sides that are just just below .50...I don’t remember their exact weight. I think it’s .46 and .47 would that combo work?
