MAN! I'm way below all the averages! My center stone is .3 baby diamond!

Cozy, remember PS is not necessarily the 'real world.' ;)) :) I have a baby diamond too hehe.

Looks like the 1.0 to 1.49 carat group has the slight lead at this point!

You are very right, however according to DF, I'm well below the national average. Now if I could just convince DH of this woeful  fact and hurry up on my upgrade....

Until that time: "Baby" Diamond Owners UNITE! ;) :D

U.S. avg E-ring is J SI2 .71 ct
P.S. avg E-ring is H VS2 1.18 ct
No.Ca. avg is 2.61 ct
So.Ca. avg is 2.73 ct
NYC avg is 2.87 ct
midwest avg is .48 ct
the avg E-ring in Texas and Florida is 1.86 ct

FYI: I'm in the southwest, and have no idea what our average is here, I do know that my e-ring is much smaller than my 2 sisters e-rings ;)

Mine is a modest .78ct. It's the smallest by far of all my friends, even the ones who got engaged right after college.

I'd love to have a bigger stone and use the current on as a side stone, but real life gets in the way of that fantasy.

DF and his "statistics" hah!

I'm at 1.30 but for Florida based on DH's numbers.. I'm behind... thank goodness I have my old stone which puts me within spitting distance of the average in Florida... 1.81 to 1.86 average... :naughty:

Only .88 here and a small .88 at that! (POH) However, that .88 is "maximized"! :naughty:  :naughty:  No DSS or ring envy yet, but wait until our LA GTG! hehe

Current? 0.7 ct-er.

My "upgrade" is coming soon, who knows when.

See, secret census government official

Left hand .91 EC, right hand Round diamond .73 (not sure of kind) BTW, I have never been a fan of round cut diamonds, but I can see why they are so popular now. My Round looks bigger and sparkles more than my EC. So I guess as the old saying goes "Don't knock it, until you try it" applies. My friend is so loving throwing that in my face now. I still love my EC though :D

I live in NYC, and the average e-ring is nowhere near 2.87 ct!! My stone is 1.06 ct.

I'm not even sure what the average is around where I live...I cannot tell how big many diamonds actually are. I more notice who's upgraded and who's not since I've seen some transitions from YG to WG within the last few years among women I know.

I actually pay more attention to diamond studs, for some reason, and look to see what sizes are on women in my region.

Mine is 1.89ct.

I'd say the average where I live is in the .30 to .50ct range, if people wear an engagement diamond at all. Most people don't that I can see.

Most people think my ring is fake, I think :rodent:

HI:

I am amazed at the large center stones/diamonds I see when I am out and about.....and diamond stud earrings!

cheers--Sharon

According to the poll, the PS average is 1.789, the median is close to 1.5ct and the mode 1.5ct.

To calculate, I used the center value of each range (except the upper range, which I guesstimated at 4.5ct. Since it has low impact on the average, I didn't stress too much - a 0.5ct increase in this range increased the average only 0.02ct).

I wonder what percentage of diamond studs we see are fake. Unlike eng rings, it seems like people might not be as inclined to wear real dimond studs.

SAME! Around here the biggest you'll see (with a few exceptions) is a 1 carat. I have seen a few exceptionally large rings, but that's not the norm.

Do you really want to know the average (mean), or median? I think the median would be more helpful. A straight up calculation of average gives you an answer too influenced by outliers. Yes, Phoenix, I'm talking to you.

Definition: The mean is the arithmetic average of a set of numbers, or distribution. The median is described as the numeric value separating the higher half of a sample, a population, or a probability distribution, from the lower half.
Applicability: The mean is used for normal distributions. The median is generally used for skewed distributions.
Robustness: The mean is not a robust tool since it is largely influenced by outliers. The median is better suited for skewed distributions to derive at central tendency since it is much more robust and sensible.

Goodness knows we have to be sensible on PS.

1.3 oval center stone here. I don't know if we'll ever upgrade. We've only had the stone for ~2 years now...my husband sourced it and set it, I had nothing to do with the process (I know, bad PS'r!) but I love it. I think we are smack dab in the middle of what is average for our town--he thought anything over 1.5 seemed "ostentatious" and I thought anything over 3 carats would've been. Ha! I'm happy with what I have on my hand, though. It's noticeable, but doesn't scream HEY I AM A HUGE ROCK LOOK AT MEEEEE!!!! in these parts! :wavey:

Ohhhh, the studs I am referring to, are no fakie mcfakers! In fact one pair I saw the other day were so magnificent and large, I found myself STARING! (and, generally, I only stare at myself....  :rodent: )

cheers--Sharon
