Before my son moved out he came home unexpectedly one night after I had indulged and was walking around trying to figure out why the house smeled like a concert. I didn't feel the need to enlighten him. Note: it was the FIRST TIME I had done it in 30 years. All it did was make me extremely paranoid and I'm not likely to repeat the experience.

I did smoke some in HS/College, but it was not my favorite in the world, in part due to the fact that I was smoking and it was disgusting. The feeling wasn't enough to offset the fact that I can't stand the taste, smell or process of smoking. The only time I ever felt I got anything out of it was pot brownies.

That's me. I have no problem with other people smoking, but my couple experiences were enough to realize, not for me. In my college it seemed like I was in the extreme minority.

If they do legalize it, hopefully they will do some kind of tests to see if it is carciogenic. It would be a shame if they legalized it and then people were dying from lung cancer from it.

But overall, seems that alcohol is a more serious drug regarding abuse and addictiveness.

Add me to the list of those who tried it in their younger days and have no urge to try it again. I suspect my parents indulge every now and again, though.

Oh, no! That is kind of funny, though.
I'm impressed that he didn't figure it out!

I don't see the point in doing anything that alters your state of . . . being or awareness. Why would you not want to be in full control of yourself at all times?

But then, I don't get drunk, either.

I came of age in the 1970s. It was ubiquitous. It never appealed to me then, and it doesn't hold any more fascination for me now.

However, all smoking is bad for you. Regardless of the content of what you're smoking.

there are more people hooked on prescription drugs than illegal drugs.

I wouldn't try it if I had to smoke it, so I voted no. I might try it in some other form. I have never tried it, but was around people who were using it. :halo: Being the liberal that I am, I'd totally be fine with other's using it. I'm even for legalization. At least in Canada, where it could actually happen, theoretically.

This is a major source of contention in our marriage. My husband partakes recreationally once in a while, and though it doesn't affect his work (he's an engineer). I'm very much against it, because I grew up in a very strict family where even legal vices such as cigarettes or too much alcohol is not approved....we have come close to ending our marriage because of our disparaging views.

Even if they legalized pot, I would not smoke it. I don't want to set any examples for my children, who are at an impressionable age (10 an 8), I don't want them to partake in anything mood-altering or anything that would affect control of ther full senses.

I do drink a glass of wine to relax and wind down here and there, and dh has tried to convince me it's the same thing, but to me it's not because one is legal and one is still not.

That is hysterical! And sure, Amber St. Clare, it was your very very first time.....I think that's the standard line we all used! ;))

Sorry for skewing the results then. The reasons I would try it are because I'm 50 years old (what the hell!), I have chronic pain, and I have a lot of anxiety right now. I wouldn't just try something to get stoned. I'd want an actual benefit, yanno? ;))

I dabbled with it when I was younger, last time was around 10 years ago, wasnt as much fun as I remembered lol, so I voted no, I would not try it again...but I think it would be OK for it to be legal...my sister and her husband both smoke all the time and they are in their mid 50's

I voted no.

I used to partake quite a bit, but I cant even tell you the last time I smoked pot. I guess I outgrew it. Most of the people I know still do. So I think that the majority of people that would use it when its legal are probably using it now anyway.

I think it should be legal. It doesnt make people aggressive like sometimes happens with alcohol. Prohibition is looked at like some ridiculous part of Americas past, yet mellow weed smokers are still criminals

I can tell you, that in the midst of a very stressful time in my life it definitely helped with the anxiety I had!

Agree with your husband in terms of it being something people like to use to wind down. My husband winds down with it often after a 13 hour work day. Drinking one beer or one glass of wine just doesn't do it for him.

No, it wasn't my FIRST time but I swear to God it was my first time since I had become a mother. I never felt right about even thinking about doing it while we had an impressionable child in the home. He was 24 when I was "busted".

This is not true. I work at an addiction recovery facility, and part of my job deals with NYS statistics. It's still alcohol, followed by marijuana. There's no doubt that opiates (prescription or otherwise) are surging in popularity recently, but they have still not overtaken those old "favorites". Slightly old stats, looking for newer, that I'm able to access.

To answer the question, no, I would not. I have tried it, a very long time ago, and did not like it.
