Hands down....Koa Kea....perfection at its best. Husband and I spent 10 days there last year and had an incredible experience. The beach front room was perfect for us, and the snorkeling was the best...silky white sand, no rocks and it wasn't very crowded. The Sheraton and Marriott were right next door and both properties were jammed packed; the Marriott was like a zoo as it had wild chickens running all over. It was just a more quiet atmosphere, there weren 't a lot of children running all over the place and it wasn't noisy. The pool scene was very adult and more laid back.

We loved Koa Kea.

Yeah, the broken ankle is a pain, but it happened at the end of the trip, not the start so I'm just recovering at home with the cats so it's better than it could have been. Just wanted to warn you so you wouldn't have the same experience. Skippy, no standing would have been a great rule. The reason I was walking was that we were soaked repeatedly where we were sitting and freezing so we were trying to get to a less wet area of the boat.

Hyatt the pools are perfect. Not too warm (cause it's hot out) and not cold. At night it's heated too. They really have the 'perfect pools' thing down to a science. What I loved is that you never got tired of them because there are so many to explore. One day you are at one area, the next you can go to a different one or just enjoy the one you've already been too. The salt water pool is just the best pool I've ever been in. Large and lots to explore. Connected to the salt water lagoon which has a beach with sand.

We paid about 1300 for Monday through Sunday (check out on Sunday) for the hotel. Once you subtract out the airfare.

Wow that's an awesome deal! For the rack rate, they want $3,900 or so for 7 nights. With the military discount we got a "steal" at $2,880. The Koa Kea would is $3,200.

Yeah. That's why I recommended you give Bookit and Costco a try. At least get their rates for what you want, it doesn't hurt to do a little hunting around.

Our deal was if you bought the airfare with it the room was 67% or something off. It was definitely worthwhile. Great flight through Alaska too.

Thanks! I'll be looking into it right now. Hyatt USED to be offered on Hotwire (the only 4-star in Poipu) and I saw it get as low as $220 a night, but starting a few months ago, it was no longer offered :(

ETA: EEK! Bookit is a no go! Right now our room/car/plane combo would be $4,180. Bookit has the combo of the three coming in at $6,500!

See... worth looking at. Now you feel like you ARE getting a deal.

We also booked only 2 weeks out; so I suspect that a lot of our great pricing came from booking at the last minute. Just keep checking the rates as you get closer. If you get a better deal, great. If not... well you have your reservation already. Win/Win.

Also try Expedia. The concierge on site is Expedia owned so there might be some kinda of deal the hotel has with them. You never know.
