Hi PSers.

I think I have decided on 14k RG for my .43 princess I am bezeling for a pendant. Trying to decide between the BGD fixed pendant style vs the BGD Barbara. This is going to be worn 24/7

In my budget. I can do one of the three. (Set because of extra charges for princess and outside stone)

Fixed Bezel with ears.

Barbara +$50 more than fixed with the discount.

Fixed Bezel with milgrain same price as plain Barbara.

Barbara w/Milgrain is out of budget even with discount.

Thoughts. I do have concerns with flipping and stabbing but with a diamond so small will I have those issues? Also it is an elongated princess do you think I should set east/west or north/south?

Poking is no issue especially for small diamonds. Based on my experience, the biggest issue with a fixed, light pendant is that the pendant tends to (will definitely) ride up your neck. This problem bothers me a lot. The Barbara setting (and any setting with a bail) can slide and will self correct.

In terms of flipping, chances are that fixed pendants will flip unless the chain is just short enough to sit on your collar bone. Again, the Barbara setting and any setting with a bail (or rabbit ears) will not flip.

For the benefits mentioned above, Barbara is better than fixed. Unfortunately, Barbara is a little costly. Do you consider a setting with a bail? if so, you may be able to find more affordable settings at your local jewelry stores. If not, pay a little more to get the Barbara. The extra cost is worth more than the riding up and flipping issues.

Riding up the neck is a big issue with me. Every time you turn your head it moves. I was always readjusting to get the pendant back in the middle. I have a bezel/prong set that the chain slides through on the top at about 11 and 1 o'clock positions.

I guess I was hoping to hear that the fixed bezel was just as wonderful but it sounds like it is more of a pain. Was getting excited that I could have a milgrain bezel but I may have to just stick with the plain Barbara which is still beautiful and wonderfully made. I would just get the princess bezel but I don't like the solid sides of that version. How it looks like a little block. Not for me.

Anyone else with an opinion?

i had a 0.7 carat cushion in fixed bezel and i must say i regret not getting a barbara setting for it. I keep needing to adjust it keep moving away from center.
