I need some help finding the perfect e-ring and diamond for my girlfriend. I have been browsing around this site for a few weeks and have learnt quite a bit about the 4c''s and now am ready to shop for the real thing.

My situation is that I live in London, UK but have found that prices and attitudes over here have forced me to shop online. I have visited Hatton Garden here in London and was really put off. I really wanted to have the whole ring designed but it was going to cost too much, so I asked how much it would cost to have a diamond I might order in the US set in a ring designed over here (I really wanted to have a one off but now its not so important). As soon as I mentioned bringing in my own diamond their attitudes ranged from dimissive "dont bother,we can do it for cheaper" to annoyed "well if you don''t buy the whole package from us we will jack up the price of the setting". So I have given up with them.

What I am looking for is quite simple. I would like is an Ideal cut 0.6-0.7ct center diamond (eye-clean and as white as my budget will allow) with a 0.15-0.2ct baguette on each side of a Tiffany style 18kt White gold ring. If I can I would like to have the whole thing 1.00ct total.I was thinking of something like this for the ring.

Now for the crunch, I really only have US$3000 to play with. I would like to have the whole package from one retailer so I don''t have to wire money to too many people. I have a good friend who lives in New York and if there are any online retailers that have actual stores there, that would be a bonus as she could check anything I may order for me. I would probably have anything posted out to her too to check out and take advantage of any money back returns if need be.

I was wondering if anyone could help me out in my search, I don''t want to sound like I need someone to do all the hard graft for me, I have spend many hours searching myself and would just like to see if there is something out there I have missed. If there is any info I have missed I will do my best to fill in any gaps.

Thanks heaps for your help.

Hi jam.

Not sure where your friend is exactly, but this jewler is in Long Island I believe specifically. No one will give you more info, and he''s a great guy to work with. I''m sure he could help you. If you don''t see any stones that fit your bill, he will find you one. He also carries several lines of settings.

Bugger, forgot to say that I would like the center stone to be Princess Cut and the baguettes to be tapered.

He carries many fancies, and can get any shape.

I have found the Whiteflash staff to be very friendly when it comes to custom work. I have bugged them almost daily and they are still kind to me.

My main thing is that it really helps to talk to them by phone. If you go with them I recommend setting up an appointment with Brian Gavin. He is co-founder, a 5th generation stone cutter, and a straight shooter.
