Hi all,

This site has been so helpful, but I am running out of time. I am trying to find a princess shape, .38-.42, D-G, VVS1-SI1, and ideal cut. I am willing to lower color and clearity for better cut, but I would like to stay around the .4 range in size. My GF has a very small hand and she wants a smaller stone. I have been dealing with Union Diamonds, Excel Diamonds, and now just today James Allen. I have looked at some selections with Union as I am 1 1/2 hrs from Atl, but nothing jumped out at me. I am most interested in Fire and Scintillation, but I was not aware of the verbage at that time. I just have images in my mind from seeing fireworks in a princess at a local jeweller...they were $3K over my budget. I just read about the ideal and LSet scope Sunday and am trying to get one ( site says they are out, called and am waiting for call back). I have requested ideal scope images and Sarin data from James Allen and Excel and I will post once I get them. I have three questions:

1. Will I be able to find a good diamond for my budget of $1000?
2. Will I be able to find in house diamonds in my size range (so far I have not)?
3. Could you point me to some good selections?

I would appreciate all the help I can get. Thanks,

I don''t know a lot about princess cuts but I''d also suggest adding GoodoldGold and Icemine to your list and who to check with. Also, Mark at engagementringsDirect,he''s right in NY''s diamond district and has access to many stones without having to call them in.

we might seem like all size whores on PS, sacrificing clarity and color to what might seem to others as ridiculous extremes to get the size and cut we want.

In this case, you would do better to extend your color and clarity in order to get a better size, as smaller princesses severely underperform rounds of the same size.

And a .4 princess is like a .3 round.

If you really want something in the <4.5mm range, you''d get better performance with a round and could put it in a fishtail 4 prong to make it look squarish.

Just my 2 cents.

Thanks for the quick responces!

Mrssalvo: It seems engagementringsDirect does not carry anything below $1K. I am checking out GOG and IM, but all their in house stuff is to large.

JulieN: I totally understand about magic weight! It has been so hard finding anything good below .5. My GF specificaly wants a princess, so the rounds are out. So you would suggest going larger? I guess I could go up to a .5. Any larger just swallows her hand, and she does not like it.

Any other suggestions?

Pascual,

Some vendors may not list stones that size on their websites. Have you called them or are you just looking at their on-site inventory?

I think it is the easiest way to get a good cut for little work. Nothing wrong with GIA princesses. But if SI2 is unacceptable to you (they actually have a pretty good chance at being eye-clean in this size, IMO) then look at those DCD stones.

Thanks JulieN: I am checking out the DCD. I will call. Should I ask for anything else besides the ideal scope image and Sarin data that the pricescope community needs to help me judge it?

Mrssalvo: I have only called James Allen and Berry from excel. Berry recommed I call in the two AGS 0s. James Allen did not recommend any, but I did not ask either.

You don''t need anything more than that.

I have also heard on here that Whiteflash.com has some great Princess. Might check em out.

I think Julie''s given you good advice. The two she pointed two...

are the ones I''d easily first recommend, because of their AGS0. I too see Jim has several. Do ask him to recommend one or two, though I see at his newer site, he grades them (on some basis), so you might just ask him to look at both the ideal options there.

Pascual,

Options at DCD and James Allen, I believe, should be the same. Any questions about that, would recommend you just dial him up. I think as we speak, he may be modifying his presentations (or my computer is on the fritz).

But, I did see two that were like .4 and what he called ideal and GIA, with one at $700 or $800 and change, and E in color, which I would have thought to check out...can''t bring that up right now for some reason.

Alright! Excel put up links to two stones I asked about. One of AGS0s was tied up but here is the other one.

http://www.exceldiamonds.com/diamond/29175.html there is a link to the ideal image scope next to the stone.

Also here is a GLI stone from excel that I requested before Berry recommend me the AGS0s. http://www.exceldiamonds.com/diamond/26683.html

Please give your expert opinions. I am not able to open the link to the ideal scope here at work for some reason, so I am clueless about the stones right now. Thanks
