I''ve recently discovered, much to my surprise, that diet coke actually lessens the symtoms of PMS - a lot! It just kind of happened by accident really a couple of times and I was pleasantly surprised, so I tried it again a few more times and it works, miraculously!! I have it a few days before and also during.

Has this happened to anyone else? I wonder also if regular coke does the same?

The older I''ve gotten, the worse my PMS has become. I''m willing to try anything!! Diet Coke with or without caffeine?

I''d rather have the one without caffeine, anytime, but the only option in S''pore is the one with caffeine.

I''d really be interested to see if it works for you too.

I think it''s probably the caffeine that does it. They actually put caffeine in Midol. If you aren''t used to drinking caffeine then you''ll definitely notice the difference in how you feel on it because it is a drug and enhances pain relievers as well, so if you take it with tylenol, it will work better.... that is unless you''re especially sensitive to caffeine. Some people find it makes things worse.

I was going to say the same thing as sumbride -- it''s definitely the caffiene. As she mentioned, Midol is just a pain reliever with caffiene! Wash down some aspirin/tylenol with an ice cold coke, and it''s way more enjoyable than midol

Thanks, Lindsey and Sumbride. That would make sense. Indeed I only drink decaf coffee so maybe the caffeine in the diet coke helps. Only thing is though, I used to drink regular coffee, several cups a day, and I had really bad PMS. Plus, the diet coke seems to relieve the other symptoms like bloating too.

Caffiene is a diuretic

which would help with bloat. I would guess that if you used to drink regular coffee several times a day, you would see no benefit from the caffiene unless you upped your intake. Caffiene is like any other drug, where people have a unique tolerance (building up as they go) and can go through withdrawal symptoms. Perhaps the caffiene has a more noticeable effect on you, now that you don't drink caffiene on a very frequent basis. Just a thought.

Hi Lindsey,

I've just changed my screen-name! (or rather Andrey has kindly changed it for me, since I'm so good (NOT!!) at editing my profile).

Thanks for your reply. What you've said makes an awful lot of sense. I'm so glad that one of my favourite drinks (which I try not to drink too much of btw

) is practically a cure for my PMS!!
