Hi,

I am contemplating 2 stones and both of them have the same cut, clarity and color. Only difference is the depth, table, crown and pavillion angle. They are both excellant cut stones but given measurements, which do you think is a BETTER ideal stone? I like stone B better but when I plug the depth and table into the HCA, stone B's number isn't so great whereas stone A has a much better rating.

Can you pls shine some light on which stone is a "better" ideal cut stone given the depth and table? How reliable is the HCA score? Stone B, 2.25ct is $500 cheaper.

A:
2.19 ct, I,VS2
T: 56.8%
D: 61.3 %
CA: 34.8
PA: 41.1
Flour: None
Cutlet: None
8.33x8.41x5.13mm
AGSL, Triple O
HCA: 2.7, Very Good

B:
2.25 ct, I, VS2
T: 59%
D: 61.5%
CA: 33
PA: 41.8
Flour: None
Cutlet: None
8.41x8.44x5.19mm
GIA, Triple Excellant
HCA: 5.6, Good
Which stone would give off more brillance and fire and not have too much light leakage?

Stone A has been rated ideal cut and ideal light performance by AGS, so I would definitely choose that one over a stone with a 4+ HCA score.

Double post.

Re: PLS HELP!!!! uRGENT. Which stone is better? HCA worthly

These stones have two different looks to them. They may both be very nice stones. The second stone's proportions are close to what's known as a 60/60 stone. The first stone's proportions are closer to what is typically recommended on this site, a Tolkowsky ideal cut. Here is an article that will show you the differences:

ETA: When you say you like stone B better, does that mean you have seen these diamonds in person? If so, your eyes should be the final judge. The HCA is useful in helping consumers weed out potential poor performers, but the HCA does not have the gift of human eyesight. You have two examples of two classic "styles" of round brilliants. Compare the stones in all lighting conditions to make sure they do not have any dull or dark spots. Choose the one you like best. It's down to personal preference at this point, I'm afraid ;))

Ditto on personal preference if you can see both of them together under different lighting conditions.

Can you post the lower half size of both stones?

thanx all for the awesome info...

i did not see both of these stones in person. but the gemologist who is mounting the ring has a hold of the 2.25ct already and said it looks great and also a better value given that it's $500 less. I'm not worried about the $500 difference. I said I like stone B a little better cause it was bigger in size but now I'm looking more if it's NOT visible to naked eye and also MOST BRILLANT. Stone A does have less inclusions but gemologist who has the 2.25ct in hand said not of includsions are visible to naked eye.

so what do you guys think? which would you purchase if you were shopping for a stone given the below choices.

here are the below numbers for the stone

A: 2.19 ct

Re: PLS HELP!!!! uRGENT. Which stone is better? HCA worthly

The actual face up mm diameter is only minially different- not a size difference you would notice IRL. So I wouldn't consider that a factor- I would select A as it has better light performance.

Re: PLS HELP!!!! uRGENT. Which stone is better? HCA worthly

Stone A may show more colored fire because the crown is steeper. Stone B may be brighter and whiter appearing because of its shallower depth and larger table. I say "may" because both AGS and GIA use averages when reporting the stone's proportions. So without a more detailed scan of the proportions (Sarin) or images like ASET or Idealscope, or even a black and white photo for each stone, we are just guessing. Can Blue Nile's gemologist (or whoever it is who is setting the stone) give you any details about the stones' appearance? Keeping in mind that you'd simply be getting that person's impressions, which may be different from your own. There's just not enough information for us to give you any more guidance -- I'm sorry!
