Hi Pricescope Experts,

Could you please help me again?
I am stuck with one of the local store because I have non-refundable $1500 value gift cert.
First I was going to use it toward stud earrings, but they recommended EGL certified earring and I decided to not buy it. Special thanks to Splinter, Wink, Allison and Neil for saving me from the wrong purchase.

I decided to purchase a GIA certified loose stone by the gift cert for now. (They do not carry AGS stones.) And when I have enough money, I will buy matching stone to make a pair of earrings from someone or maybe from them.

So, I would like to ask them to find a well-cut stone that is close to ACA cut.
(I wish I could simply order from WF..... but I have to use the gift cert..)

Would you please help me in specs? I am going to ask them to find a stone in the following range:

*Eye-Clean/Excellent cut GIA certified loose diamond:
Carat:0.5
Clarity: SI1
Color: G
Depth%: 60%-62%
Table%: 54-57%
Crown Angle: 34-35
Pavilion Angle :40.5-41
Polish: Ideal
Symmetry: Ideal

My budget is $1500.

I have just started learning those numbers, so honestly I have no idea how those numbers will effect.
I know the balance is important, but I don't know how...
Is Crown % and Pavilion % also important?
Am I missing something?

I was afraid that they would throw me out from their store if I tell them these number, but the sales person I talked on the phone seemed very helpful and he said he can find the stone in the specs I request.

My Ideal-Scope is arriving soon!

Thank you,

Moko, you''re on the right track.

These stats should narrow down the field to diamonds that have a high probability of performing well. Diamonds outside these tight parameters may still perform well, but those within these parameters should be strong contenders.

You didn''t list girdle info in your specs; I''d suggest thin-med or med-sl. thick girdle.

Best of luck to you!

Thank you Allison,

I will add the girdle info.

Since you are here, may I ask??
Could Whiteflash find a matching stone to make earrings if I send the stone from the local jeweler?
Will they make earrings with B&M purchased stone and WF stone?

Moko,

I just wanted to mention that with GIA, you want excellent on polish and symmetry, not ideal. Ideal is for AGS certs. I''d also adjust that pav. angle to 40.6 to 41.

Yes, WF and any PS vendor could likely find you a matching stone for studs. I''d send for the second stone and just have them set locally. However, WF would probably set it for you although there might be a small setting fee for the stone you didn''t buy from them. I will tell you that the stock earring settings at local jewelers here are less than those from PS vendors.

I think you have a great idea to just use the certificate for one stone so you can hopefully save a little money on the other one!

Thank you, Diamondseeker for your replies!
It was great help! OK, I corrected number of Pavilion Angle and changed from Ideal to Excellent for Polish and Symmetry. I’m confused with AGS and GIA.

Thank you for the correction!

It's nice to know that I can buy matching stone from PS vendors.. because I am so stressed out trying to communicate with local jewelers. I feel I am really very badly picky. PS vendor would know what quality we want and we do not need to explain ideal cut, light return, ACA, etc. I guess I am getting tired....

I will check the setting also when I go to the store. The settings of EGL stud earrings I saw at the store were not very impressive/kind of cheap looking. They may not have much variety in the setting, but I will look.

Thank you again!!
