Ok, so I have this http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/3334/ under lock and key at GOG. All was going well, happy with my decision, until I came across this! http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/4372/

aarggh! For all intents and purposes, almost the same stone - pretty much identical cut, both K and med fluor, both AGS000 - but one is SI2 and cheaper (and a smidge bigger!

).
Please PS'ers what should I do? Is it just me, or does the photo and the clarity plot on the SI2 actually look better than the SI1??

I know its not Alot of money, but should I save myself the $$ and get the SI2? Are there nuances in the cut that I'm not seeing? the Si1 does have triple ex on the Bscope - how important is this?
I am currently waiting eye cleanliness advice from Jon, but would love your opinions too..

please help, i thought it was all done lol!

Jane, you can''t tell by the clarity plot as you know, maybe if it was me, if this rock was given the thumbs up by Jon, I might consider it - see what the man says!

I know I know - I've just been a lil irked by the plot for the si1 from before - sorry, silly I know!
apart from that anything stand out Lorelei? as in cut wise would you choose one over the other? thankyou for answering hon!

You are welcome!

They are both superbly cut diamonds, I would wait to see what Jon says if the SI2 is eyeclean! They are both lovely and I don''t think you can go wrong!

The SI2 is just over the 7mm mark which for me is a personal sweeeeeeeet spot :D

if eyeclean it would be a contender in my books :D

I''d go with the one with the lifetime guarantee in case you ever want to change it.

Both diamonds have the lifetime guarantee.

hi happy girl - as Lorelei has said, both have all the garauntees, you just can''t see the info on the one I''ve reserved

thankyou for your vote though!

hey Dee, ty for the vote - so (assuming eyeclean of course), you would choose the larger?
for the record, the SI2 is also about $300 cheaper..

....oohh I''m starting to hope its clean! damn this time difference!

Have Jon compare the two, and pick the best one, if there is one. (assuming both are eye clean)

You could also have him color grade both to see if there''s a difference.

I would ask Jon or Sarah which one was nicer to be sure but I think they both look good.

I would definitely be inclined to go the bigger :D 7mmish is just a good size to me if your hunting in that region :) your fingers are smaller then mine as well so really either one will look massively fantastic

Well I am a bigger is better kind of girl, but in this case I''d go with the one that Jon says is best.

Ok, thanks girls...I guess I knew this would be the answer, I''m just nervous about waiting! I was going to do my wire tomorrow and all, lol.
Thanks everyone who replied - I will update once have heard from Jon.

I will email again, but I guess he busy..

I''d go for the bigger one, only, of course if it''s eye-clean. Perhaps he can do one of his fabulous comparison videos for you?

I''d get the bigger one for sure if it''s eyeclean and Jon gives it the thumbs up.

I think the first diamond gets: 1.3-EX ex-ex-ex-vg

And the second one is: 1.7-EX ex-vg-vg-vg

If you place any value on HCA results, I'd go with #1.

Angel, the HCA isn't used to select diamonds, it is used to eliminate lesser performers. Once you have two diamonds of this known and proven excellent cut quality, with all the information provided such as Idealscope, ASET and other technologies, the HCA isn't really needed - I hope you don't mind me mentioning that!

Not at all Lorelei! Thank you for pointing that out. But since Sarin, Idealscope and ASET are all tools just like HCA and perhaps arjunajane cannot see these two diamonds in person to pick her favorite, shouln''t you pay equal attention to all technology that is available?

If the second is eyeclean and you get the thumbs up I would go for the larger size. Even if it''s only a smidge bigger, you may wonder as DSS sets in if the other would have seemed bigger.... at least I would! This way you won''t question it. In my expereince here in a small amount of time..... you can totally trust Jon for letting you know the quality and selecting stones that make many a girl happy

Can''t wait to hear the outcome!

That is a good question! However Idealscope and ASET are actual images of the diamond which can show leakage or light return of a particular diamond, whereas HCA can only estimate how well a given set of proportions may work, it can't physically see the diamond and is bascially a tool to eliminate lesser performers ( diamonds which score 2 or below usually considered cherry and worth further eval). Once you hit 2 or below in many cases, then you move away from the HCA to tools which can actually see the diamond such as Idealscope to narrow your choices further.

HCA is extremely useful in the first instance with the many diamonds which are on the listings, run the numbers through the HCA, then you can concentrate on further evaluation of the 2 and below scorers with Idealscope etc. Also there are some instances where a diamond which scores over 2 on the HCA may be well worth considering if the other cut analysis has been done, the HCA can penalize a diamond with a steeper pavilion angle, so in some cases stones which score over 2 can be worth consideration.

More info here in case you haven't come across this page yet. http://diamonds.pricescope.com/ideal.asp

Wow, I am loving the SI2! They''re both gorgeous stones! I see the SI2 is also an ISEE2 - not sure about the SI1.

I agree, ask GOG which one they think is the better stone...

Hi again all,
thankyou all for posting - I have heard from Jon in email, but unfortunately not really conclusive - I will post again with more definate answers (Scarlet thankyou for your opinion, I was hoping I wouldn''t have to ask him for another vid but we''ll see..it may have to come to that! lol

)
Thing2 thankyou for your opinion.
Angel thankyou aswell - to be honest at this stage with GOG the HCA wouldn''t be enough to influence my decision, but you''re right all info is worth considering
5.gif

And Lorelei thankyou for explaining more elegantly than I''m able to lol!
Princess Cristy, believe me thats a big part of the decision! I will definately update.
Impatientone, they are both Isee2 and almost twins except for the clarity - makes it real hard!

But nice dilemma to have..
I go to bed now, hope you all have nice day and will update hopefully tomorrow..

Hello again!
spoke to Jon via instant messaging last night so I could get some sleep not wondering about this lol!
sad news is, the Si2 isn't really eyeclean, in that Jon said sarah and Chaz could see it straight away, but from arm's length its not noticeable. We discussed the nature of the inclusion, and seeing as I spend alot of my free time (and time when I should be working, cleaning ..well, you get the picture..
3.gif
) staring at my ring up close, we decided best to go with the Si1..
So, good news though in that its all decided and should have my new (much bigger!) ring in a matter of weeks!
36.gif

I don't think I have updated on this yet - I am getting the Legato sleek lines from WF in YG.
