Hi Everyone,

First time diamond buyer and PS newb here, and to be quite honest before recently (want to propose to gf soon), I didn't care what the difference was between a carat and a carrot.

So I've been lurking around PS for weeks now trying to be a sponge and gain as much knowledge about diamonds as I possibly can before I pull the trigger - and I have to say that the wealth of knowledge on this forum, and just the friendliness of the people on this board is outstanding!

With that said, I hope you all can lend your opinion on a diamond that I recently reserved at GOG. The diamond is an AGS Ideal 0, which I thought was a great diamond for the price, though I realize I may have sacrificed a little color for price(though I have read that with an AGS0 cut, the diamond will face up better than the "I" grade it carries. I am a little concerned about the girdle being too thin, and the slight "hole" in the IS image, but other than that the diamond(imo), looks and specs good.

Here's the link: http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/2296/

Thanks in advance for any help!

First......Welcome to PS

AGS is to my knowledge, the only lab that applies cut grades to Princess cut stones. This stone looks pretty amazing, IMHO, but I''m not as knowledgeable about the princess cut. I do believe you can trust GOG and the Ideal grade from AGS should give you much comfort.

Best wishes and when you''ve got this puppy in person, and set, you are required to post pictures for all us diamond addicted PS''ers!!

Thanks for the kind welcome...

Going with GOG(and their fabulous rep here on PS) and the AGS0 grade, is what is easing some of the nerves about this princess.

Well, hope others can chime in and give their opinions as well. Trying to get as many people''s point of view...this would be a big purchase for me, and want to make sure I''m not overlooking anything that could be of concern down the line.

Hopefully, other''s who are more knowledgeable in Princess cuts will chime in. Still feel pretty confident you''ve got a killer stone there.........

I truly believe that you can''t go wrong with an AGS-O. It looks fabulous!

I can understand your concern about the thin girdle. Your best bet is to find out where it''s thin, as the corners are prone to chipping.

No worries about the color. A well-cut "I" will be brilliant!

What kind of setting are you thinking about putting it in?

Thx CG for your take on the diamond. I''ll have to look further into the details concerning the girdle thickness and where exactly it might be ''thin''.

As far as setting not sure yet, still searching. Looking for something modern, yet still have some of that ''old world'' design to it.
