Yes, that setting is the exact setting Designchica got (Richard Landi). Its beautiful! Personally, I would skip the halo on a stone that large, and get a one-sided pave band, as a 3-sided cannot really be worn with a w-band next to it. And I like to wear my rings together, so I know for me that wouldnt work.

You ladies are awesome. I appreciate the feedback. This has been soooo confusng but I just want everything to be just right.

So I am now leaning toward that option #3 but I checked out the DesignChica thread and it looks like hers is 3-sided. So, you think that setting but only a one-sided band would look ok? Want to be sure it can be worn with a wedding band without any sort of issues.

Thanks!

If you like the Michael B, why dont you get the one-sided version of the setting you like?

i wasnt set on the Michael B at all and I just saw the Landi earlier today. Also, I''m not sure how the Michael B would look one sided since it has all those diamonds up at the top under the stone.

Plus I think the Landi looks "younger"....not sure.

azbuyer, are you sure that setting is a Micheal b? i'm very familiar with his designs and have never seen him do a basket setting like the ring you posted. not saying it's not his but I've just never seen it. i actually asked pearlmans about having them make a setting that way a while ago and the folks at MB said no way. anyway, pearlmans carries Michael b and has a ton of pics on their site, included one-side versions so you could see how it's look.

I love number 1 the best. Personally, I don''t think you should do a halo on a small woman, a big stone, and with a wedding band. Have you checked out leon mege by the way, he has some beautiful custom creations that might be up your alley. Artofplatinum.com

Not sure its a Michael B at all...I got that off of another poster here on PS. Maybe it was "similar" to one of their designs. Either way I was aiming for something like that as an example of something that wasnt halo but not pure solitaire and platinum only. I will check out Pearlmans. Thanks!

I''m sharing this with you because I am a halo lover and planning to put one on my 2.75 emerald. The thing is, I''ve always been a halo lover. Now that I have a bigger stone I''m making a smaller (width) halo so that it isn''t overwhelming. You have to do what you feel comfortable with however I''ve always wanted one and I''m pretty set on getting it. Had my ff proposed without one, I know I would love it but I''d probably want to halo something else to get it out of my system. Its just my opinion but I think its better to get her something that you know she''d like and if she doesn''t like it you can always change it later. I love when my boyfriend picks up on little hints I give him and it seems like her pointing out a ring with a halo is a big hint! I agree her finger size is small and it may look big, however 3.5 is big anyway with or without the halo.

I decided againts 3 sided pave at the last minute because looking at rings in person with one side and then one with 3 sides, 1 was enough for me.

I think the key, if a halo is to be put on a 3+ ct stone, is that the halo stones needs to be very small and delicate looking. Looks like Harry Winston does it a lot and he uses way bigger stones. So it cant be that bad. Even the pic shown here may not be delicate/small enough. But if someone does like halos there is for sure a way to do it without it looking absurd on a small finger or too gauche - even though living in Manhattan, 3 carat is prob small :-(

Guess size matter ;)

Personally, I do not think you need a halo on a 3 ct stone, even though cushions do look smaller (which is why I prefer ovals). My fingers are also about a 4.5, I am petite, and live in Manhattan and think it would just look way too big. I think a lot of people here wear excessively large rings and it is just tacky....I am 26, and would not feel comfortable at work with something so big. and I work on wall street.

i''m the same size as your gf (but with 4.25 fingers). for an everyday e-ring, i would def. go without the halo. a stone that size is very substantial on it''s own. adding a halo makes it overkill for an everyday ring on such petite hands. just my personal opinion.

another thought, and i apologize if it's already been said... would you be able to just do a temp setting? you could propose with it and she could pick out the setting herself. maybe that's the best way to have "everything to be just right"

I like halo''s but not in a diamond that large. My wife is 5''8" and has a larger hand than your gf. She has a 3.2 ct RB that we set as a solitaire and it looks big. Let''s face it, 3+ ct IS BIG never mind looking big.(We looked at a 4 ct and the size became overwhelming even in a solitaire) When we tried it in a halo it started to look ridiculously big (IMO). It also detracted from the beauty and looks better to me and my wife standing on its own.
