Dear All

I'm not sure if this in in the right thread but I feel so upset about this I woke up having a nightmare last night. I went to pick up my wedding rings before Christmas and they have been butchered ;( .

FH wanted something plain and masculine and so I decided on a plain band too so that they would match. As a little bit of a special touch I asked for two secret gems stones to be put on the inside of the band - and diamond and a sapphire representing the first letter of our initials.

To show the jeweler what I wanted I showed him a picture of BG's work (attached below) and he said that he could do it. What I ended up getting is a horrible bead set job :nono: . The pictures below are of FH's ring, the gems are set similarly on the inside of my band.

Please tell me this can be fixed and where I can get it fixed. I'm in Australia but I'm willing to post the ring overseas to get fixed.

I bet it can be fixed.... but WOW that is terrible! it looks like they took a little knife and chipped away at the ring until they stuffed a bead in! YKES!

I know - usually I would just let something like this pass as a lesson learnt the hard way and not go back to the same jeweler, but these are our wedding bands! And we will be wearing them everyday ;( .

I'm sure they can be reworked. How about if you forwarded these pictures to some jewelers here? Maybe they could give you a yay or nay about fixing them.

I'm terribly sorry - I just can't believe they saw the first picture and thought this would in any way compare to the workmanship. It's too bad they said they could do it and then botched it up like that!

Good luck - keep us posted on your progress!

I agree with sending the pics to a recommended vendor like Whiteflash or Brian Gavin and ask and get a quote. I'm so bummed for you but I think it can be fixed.

Oh my word. I agree with the other posters... It looks like it can be fixed, but I would not go back to the same jeweler!!! Send it to a trusted vendor and just be done with it!

Oh my goodness!!!! I feel for you!

I am not sure where you live (or even if they can help) but I had my ring made at Janai Jewellers in the Melbourne CBD (Collins Street) and I had 4 surprise sapphires embedded in the band. Perhaps you could give them a call and they may be able to help you? I deal with Faith, who's really accommodating. I have attached a photo of the inside of my band for you to see what they did for me. I hope you find a solution to your problem soon!!!!!

It looks like me&myboys has given you a very good reference, and yes- it can be fixed. Almost anything can be done to metal by a talented and experienced benchman. Their first mistake was digging out an oversized square hole in order to create a bead setting for your stones. The photo you showed them was of burnished setting, when the hole made is just the teeniest tiniest hair larger than the stone being set, then the metal is heated and softened, the stone dropped in and when the metal cools? Viola! the stone is in for good. Those stones can be removed and molten metal can be used to fill those ugly setting holes and then polished. You shouldn't even know they were once there. But again, by an experienced benchman/metalsmith. Please let us know how this turns out for you.

I would be VERY surprised if this could not be fixed, by the right person - good luck!
