I love bees. I respect them and stay away from them but I do love them.

They are pretty amazing little dudes
Its just too bad it hurts so much if you stand on one - not good for the bee either saddly

Just returned from Costa Rica where I spent a night in the canopy of the rainforest in a treehouse. I had to climb up a rope to get there but it was worth it!

also some pics from the rainforest and the resident reptiles.

A tree (many trees) grow in Brooklyn and Spring is here.
Birds chirping, sun shining and trees and flowers blooming.
Take that Covid-19.

so beautiful :appl:

the acorns are all off the trees here
this street is so pretty - unfortunately our street doesn't have street trees but my Australian lilly pilly is starting to fruit up - it feeds all the little birds through the winter 20200321_115735.jpg

yesterday i went out to get bread and butter from our neughbourhod supermarket - trade was steady but calm - practically everything was in stock including loo roll just no flour or hand sanatizer - a got a big bottle of bleach
even though there were very few people about i cut through this long closed school to avoid people - there are no buildings but someone mows the lawn still - it was a bit acropilypitic to look at in the present situation but their were birds chirping every where

I took these on our permitted walk this afternoon, out in the woodlands by the brook behind our house. The spring colours & lime green leaves at the moment are stunning!

These birds are called Ibis and they are very interesting birds. There is a huge colony of them off the North Carolina coast- in fact one of the largest colonies in the world. They nest on an island called Battery Island. But the baby birds cannot tolerate a salt laden diet, so every day these birds flock by the thousands inland to ingest fresh water fish, crabs, etc and then fly back to the island to feed their babies. Sometimes almost 100 mile round trip! Here are a few at the pond across from our coastal cottage. They are very striking with their long red beaks and matching legs. P4140957.jpg P4150978.jpg

I took this a couple months ago. Male Anna's Hummingbird. Tiny little guy was a good distance away but the sun was shining directly on his gorget and head and he stood out like a beacon.

As far as I could tell, he was fine. I closed the umbrella back up a bit so he was loosely covered and when I checked 15 minutes later he was gone. There is a bat house about a block away so we see a lot of them.

Thank you everyone for the beautiful pictures of life.
Maine is still in winter. There are no real buds yet and we're getting a possible 6-9 inches of snow tonight. We can't even plant until mid May at the earliest because of frost!
* We got excited today because there was a patch of green grass growing over where the septic tank is buried. Mmhmm, it's that bad.

I have not been taking as many photos as I would like, but I did get a couple of nice ones that I processed the other day.

Here is one that was doubly enjoyable. As you can see, the buds are pink, leading you to believe that the flowers will be pink. When they pop, they are white with some traces of pink with yellow centers.

That's nice.

What makes it doubly enjoyable is the intense aroma that these flowers release. There were days in the Spring when I used to kayak in icy cold runoff that happens as the snow melts that I could smell them from the middle of the river I was running.

These days I wait until the water is warmer and calmer before I go to run the river, so having the smell permeate my entire backyard is a true gift for those few days when the syringas are blooming.

Too bad I cannot "print" the wonderful aroma.

So, here is another photo that I enjoyed taking a week or so ago. I wanted to take a picture of my Blushing Beauty tulips. As I went out the front door with my camera, I noticed the flag wafting in the gentle breeze and coming across and then back away from the Blushing Beauties.

I set up my camera and took several shots, this is the one where I caught the flag where I wanted it.

The next one is a close up of a cute spider...

He was on my shirt.

I had a chance to grab some shots after the rain last weekend. Today I made the time to process some of them.

I saw this mating pair of moths outside my house a few days ago and they were huge...
IMG-20200530-WA0000.jpg

A quick Google search tells me they're called cecropia moths and they are the biggest moth species in North America. The following photo wasn't taken by me...it's just to show scale..
