Hi Ladies!! :wavey: I have been on a few of the other forums, but haven't quite made it over here....My FI just informed me today that he is headed to NYC tomorrow to meet with Mark at ERD!!! I was so excited, that I had to share, but I wasn't sure where to post, as I didn't know which forum would recognize and appreciate my excitement- then I thought of you lovely ladies!!! I have been bombarding him with emails, pics, and information (no joke, I have sent him self-written informational packets- nearly 7 pages long...yes, I am that anal-LOL!!) Only this board could understand and appreciate my willingness to be soooo involved.

I had originally found my dream stone through Perry at Leon Mege, but didnt move forward, as Perry informed my FI that the diamond was as good as sold. The specs were so unqiue, that when I came across them on Mark's site, I realized that it was the same stone (I have the cert)- I guess Perry never sold it, and somehow it ended up in Mark's hands...The stone is also $500 less with Mark, so double score. Anyway- I will not be privy to the conversation nor the experience, as its all supposed to be a surprise (I myself am literally coming un-glued!)...BTW- We're looking for a 2.5+ Carat Antique Cushion....

Thanks for reading, and I look forward to sharing the rest of my journey!!

Dawnabee- Thank you for the "dust!" I am hoping that Mark will win him over...my FI is a no-nonsense straight shooter, and I think he will appreciate how educated Mark is and what a great resource he will be. Since I will not be there (boo...pout...tear) could you please provide with a 30,000 foot level of what occurs at an appt with Mark? just curious, since I will be missing out on the experience...

Thanks for all the Luv and dust ladies, I soooo hope he snags up the 2.7 I have been drooling over!

Oh, you sound so much like me when I was in your shoes. I typed up tons of "helpful hints for diamond shopping" for DH. In the end, I found the diamond I liked and was there when he put a payment down to reserve it. So much for a surprise!

He'll do you proud. He's in good hands tomorrow.

Mark is very nice and helpful - I, like dawnabee, got my diamond from him. I hope your bf snatches that beauty up :appl:.

You definitely sound like me! I went with my FF to help pick out our diamond. He wanted for it to be a surprise, but he brought me into a jewelry store to look at rings once, and I couldn't help but butt in after that. It's a good thing though, because I had shown him pictures of a Tacori ring (princess cut, three stone with more diamonds around the band) that I thought I loved. When I saw it in the store though, I didn't like it nearly as much, and discovered that I really love princess cut solitaires. Then I started researching diamonds a lot, so we ended up doing everything together.

Now that he has the ring, I promised to let him make the proposal a surprise. I love the idea of a total surprise proposal, but I think that's soooo risky sometimes, so I'm really glad that he let me help him with the ring shopping - especially since I'm not sure whether or not we'll ever upgrade. Right now, we are both on the fence about how we feel about that. I don't think it's bad when other people upgrade at all, and I do think that it's a possibility for our future, but I'm not sure how I (or he) will feel when I actually have the ring on my finger, you know? :)

Loads of dust to you!
I have no experience with them, but he has a great site and so many of his rings are beautiful! I can't wait to see what you get!
I'm also in the dark about all things ring related, with the exception that I know he's looking and he has pics of what I like. Isn't it crazy making? I want it this way, but I also want to know what's going on! Well, not really, the surprise will be amazing!
Best of luck!

heres the link to my story https://www.pricescope.com/communit...e-briliant-from-mark-at-erd.145777/?hilit=erd

Mark was very accomodating since we had to see him at a later time in the evening. My BF and I went into his office and he talked to us both about our lives. I guess to get a better feel for our personalities... it made us feel very comfortable. I have been to other stores where the sales people were so aggressive we would leave almost instantly! This was nothing like that. It was very private and trusting (maybe we trust too much?).

Well on to the diamonds. I told him what our budget was, what carat, clarity etc we were looking for. He showed us 3 diamonds in the range we specified. He laid them out together in front of us so it was easy to compare the three and obvious that the one we wanted was the best out of the three. He explained that in his office there isnt false lighting like when you walk into the jewelry stores and everythng looks dazzling. He showed us the GIA reports for each stone and explained the cuts on each such as cushion brilliant, cushion brilliant modified, old mine brilliant etc. I cant exactly remember what they were. Then we asked whatever questions we had for him and my boyfriend asked the difference in the pricing. He explained everything to us everything we asked and everything sounded good to us. Perhaps if we were more knowledgeable we would have asked better questions but I seemed to forget everything at the sight of the diamonds  So I wasn't much help there!

Everyone is different when it comes to buying a diamond... me and my BF aren't experts and think we got almost exactly what we wanted. There are some people on here who wouldn't ever buy a G color or SI1 clarity but then there are others that love their diamonds as is no matter what the grading report. I didnt expect my BF to right away put a deposit down that day and after I got home I started to worry over it. I was so obsessed over the GIA report after we saw the diamond that I almost convinced myself my stone was ugly because its an SI1. The G color doesnt bother me at all... looks completely white to me and it held its own against the two other H's he showed us. When we were there I looked at the stones by the window and on my hand etc and I never saw a spec in the stone but when I got home I still had doubts since it happened so quick. This is no reflection on Mark because he did his job to tell us all we asked. Its just a reflection on my BF and I for rushing the buying process.

After the weeks of fretting we went back in to finalize the payment of the stone and we saw our diamond again. I see it and its as beautiful as the day we put the deposit on it... all my worries fade away! All that wasted energy for nothing when I could have been daydreaming of my lovely stone. I dont regret the worrying since I will be wearing the ring for the rest of my life and of course want to be happy with it. So you will be definately getting what you paid for and probably a much better stone than you could have imagined!

Wellllll?????????

How did it go????!!!! I need updates lol

Re: Please send me some diamond fairydust, FI in NYC tomorro

Haha- Dawnabee...well, I have a few posts on LIW and Rocktalky about this... FF didn't really want to tell me too much info, but he did tell me that the 2.76 was already sold (already had my heart set on this one). He then preceded to tell me that Mark was wonderful and DEF wants to do business with him, but the stone I am looking for is "a needle in a haystack"... So needless to say, he left with nothing. Mark called him the next day, and told him that he searched his database, and nothing... My FF suggested that perhaps we start looking at rounds...I was sooo dissspointed. I know this sounds silly, but I have my heart set on a Chunky Cushion, please don't get me wrong- Rounds are beautiful, and if he decides that is the best route, then I trust his judgment. I told him to continue to have Perry at Leon Mege and Mark search; new diamonds come in all the time, maybe mine is just right around the corner...My FF thought this was a good plan. I was hoping that he would find my stone, place the order and it would me made as I type this- so that I could have a Labor day weekend proposal, but alas, this is not going to happen.

Also, we have both been married before, he gave his ex a round (I had a princess cut) and therefore I would like us to have a totally different engagement ring- not just a bigger version of his ex's ring.
