Fluorescence: Strong Blue

I heard that Fluorescence together with graining can produce some very dull diamonds.
Surface graining is not my fav, especially when it''s on the table: it makes a diamond look like something else than a diamond.

I didn''t notice that until you mentioned it. Thanks for the heads up, i will look for something without it!

Thanks.

You are welcome.
Also, try to avoid pavilion angles higher than 41 degrees.
Good luck!

Fluorescence is not necessarily a bad thing in and of itself. I wouldn''t count out a diamond with medium or strong fluor unless you know that particular diamond will have a milky/oily appearance, which can happen occasionally with fluorescent diamonds. It can actually have a very cool effect and will make lower colored stones look whiter (not that it would be important on E/F colored stones, of course).

I don''t know anything about surface graining though! Or the combo of graining and fluor.

Without seeing it in person, is there a way of telling if the fluorescent is good or bad?

I am looking for a diamond 1.30-1.50ct, Colour E-F, VS1.

I found this one, what do u think of this? I notice it is EGL certified, so i could not dig up any more info other than its website link. I emailed the company to see if the diamond is still available, is there any specific questions I should ask them?

Out of the two diamonds you posted, the first is well cut and worth considering.. the second is not.

The second diamond has a huge table (at 60%) which is well beyond what most PSers would consider (usually 54 - 57%).

To get an idea of the cut of any future stones you look at (and their likely light performance), run the angles through the HCA - Linky.

Generally the best cut diamonds score between 0 and 2. Lower isn't necessarily better - just aim for a score of 2 and under and reject anything over that.

Personally I think fluorescence is lovely in a diamond, and many PSers agree. Just ask the vendor to look at the stone for you and confirm it's not impacting the stone's appearance negatively (such as by making it look milky or oily).

*ETA* Slightly lower colour than you were considering, but I had to show you this:

1.35ct G VS1 H&A - $14,883 bankwire price... stunning diamond!

*Double Edit*

Also this one:

1.51ct G VS2 - $14,912 before PS Discount... lovely!

I LOVE fluorescence, but I don''t know anything about how it works with graining

. Pass on the second one for it''s cut. Not enough info on the third one yet, can''t really tell anything without crown and pavilion angles. Cleo has found you some GREAT options.

Personally I''d go for the good old gold one this time!

And sorry for the three posts in a row, but you won''t see any color in a G. ESPECIALLY once it''s set in a ring.
