hdog, we need the crown and pavilion angles to be able to help you please, they should be on the first report if you can get to it.

1.34>>>1.51

You are welcome!

Can you ask for an Idealscope for the first diamond or is it set already? That one looks to be the best bet by the numbers.

Both diamonds are set already. My plan was to buy it and then have it reset to a knife-edge setting that I know my girlfriend wanted. Does anyone have any conerns with this idea?

I take it the first diamond is a better cut than the second one? Just a general question, I thought I'd go with a better colour than clarity, overall is this the better thing to do?

Without a doubt (by the numbers). This comment > is the reason the 1.34 is VG and not EX in cut. This could be so slight as to be imperceptible or darken the diamond notably. If the diamond looks beautiful and has great light return, edge to edge, it''s on the slight end.

Overall cut is king, but it sounds like you hail the king already. If you like an icy look F is nice as you''re in the colorless range but not paying the D premium. In a strict grading metric VS1 and VS2 will appear the same to the naked eye. Good choices.

You could reset it certainly, does the store who has the diamond have the other setting your GF likes, and can do the reset for you?

As Sir John says, the reason this diamond has a VG cut grade is because of the brillianteering, but if your eyes tell you this is a pretty diamond, and if you can, check it out away from the store lights and it looks good, then you shouldn't have anything to worry about.

Ok, thanks for the information. I have not seen the diamond with my own eyes yet! I have been speaking to a company via email, but what I am going to do is email them and see if they have other rings. by the sound of it, it is not a top quality diamond.

It could well be a lovely stone hdog, by the numbers it looks good and GIA penalize diamonds which may have some brillianteering done, even if it enhances desirable visual properties. As John says who is one of our experts, it may not be an issue - if you could get an Idealscope image, ask the vendors for one, this would be helpful.

Have you looked at a vendor which sells loose diamonds?
