Ok, I''m running out of time and I have to make a final decision so my boyfriend can actually know what to buy
I''ve finally decided to stop second guessing myself and go with my first instinct of a cushion cut. I''m a little worried that they can be hit or miss but I guess I''ll just have to really trust the jeweler. Unfortunately there is this little voice in my head telling me to just go with a round b/c it''ll be easier.
So that brings me to the setting.....ugh. We''ve decided that the most important thing is the stone and that we should put the majority of our budget into that. I had originally wanted to go with a matching shared prong round ering and wedding band setting. I think though I''ve decided on a solitaire with shared prong round band (probably half eternity).
Now, white gold or platinum??? This is the hardest choice at this point! I had always thought I''d go with platinum hands down....no replating, stronger, no lost metal with polishing, etc. However, since our budget is small, I''ve been loving the fact that white gold is so much cheaper than platinum. I guess I can deal with having it replated but how safe is it for the stones? A jeweler I spoke with recommended a white gold setting for the solitaire but having a platinum head. Do most white gold solitaire settings have a platinum head or is that something that has to be custom done? That''s fine for the solitaire but what about the half eternity band. Is white gold safe enough for those stones?
The only downside to platinum that I see is that it scratches easily and gets dull. How does the price of replating white gold and having platinum polished compare? I believe it was Diamondseeker''s post that had a jeweler recommending white gold for solitaires due to platinum looking dull.
Oh and there''s the fact that we may be upgrading my solitaire setting to match the half eternity band in 4-5 years. I really don''t want to spend the extra money on a platinum setting that we''ll be changing eventually. But a white gold solitaire can''t be worn with a platinum diamond band right?? I won''t be changing the diamond band so I should just go with platinum to start with right???
Ok everyone, as you see I''m desperately in need of making a decision. So put yourself in my shoes, given these options what would you do??? Thanks so much!
