I''m in the process of purchasing an engagement ring for under $10,000. I''ve been looking on Blue Nile and Union Diamond. It appears Union Diamond has much better prices. Is there any explanation for the difference in price? I''ve been looking a three diamonds and would like to know if anything stands out (good or bad). This is my first diamond purchase and haven''t consulted anyone. Only my research of diamonds on the internet. Here are the three diamonds.

Union Diamond - Select Ideal Princess (GIA, 1.29, D, VS1, 6.23-6.2-4.15, Depth - 66.9, Table - 72, TN-STK, Polish - VG, Sym - VG, Fluorescence - faint) $9274

Union Diamond - Select Ideal Princess (GIA, 1.31, F, VS1, 5.96-5.89-4.33, Depth - 73.5, Table - 70, STK, Polish - EX, Sym - EX, Fluorescence - none(inert)) $8584

Blue Nile - Signature Ideal Princess (GIA, 1.00, D, VVS2, 5.57-5.53-3.98, Depth - 72, Table - 72, medium to slightly thick, Polish - VG, Sym - VG, Fluorescence - none) $8925

Your comments are much appreciated. Thanks!!!

WHICH ONE OF THE THREE SHOULD I GO WITH? ANY SUGGESTIONS?
We need more information such as pics and ASET images to be able to help, I don''t think BN offer them, not sure about UD - but you could ask.

Ditto the gals, we need more info than I think you can get to make an informed suggestion. Fancy cuts are not like rounds, where you can go on numbers more easily. As mentioned, an ASET photo is the best tool for determining light return.

If you made me pick one on just this info, I'd go with the second one. But that doesn't mean it will be a great diamond, it just means it has the best (to me) of what little info you have.

If you are set on buying from one of these companies, instead of one that provides more info, you would do well to purchase an AGS0 stone. They are a safer bet in Princess. They will run a bit more, but you could easily lower your specs to the F-G, VS2 range, which should help keep you in budget, and still produce a nice white, eyeclean stone.

p.s. Julie found a nice one, if you decide to look elsewhere.

Princess cuts are very tricky and often pretty poorly cut and DEEP. Why dont you check out Whiteflash-they have a proprietary princess that i believe has a cut quality parameter. plus they are a great company with competitive prices
