I am assuming that my last post was too broad as I received 0 replies. I have been following the forum for a few months now and have to admit that this is without a doubt the best diamond forum on the net, and I would love some feedback from the diamond lovers and experts.

My girlfriend loves the Lucida setting but I am not in love with paying the Tiffany''s premium for the stone. I do like the Vatche setting however, and am looking for a nice Princess cut, in the 1.5 ct range to mount the x prong. Fond the stone below, which seems to be quite nice, but would like your feedback. Also, is there a big difference between the AGS and GIA certs? Perhaps you could recommend a better value for a budget of roughly 10K?

Thank you all in advance

I can''t comment on the diamond because I''m restricted from doing so as a dealer, but I think that it is all right for me to state that my preference of laboratories for grading princess cut diamonds leans towards the AGS because of the visual performance rating that is part of their cut rating system. Fortunately the diamond you ask about is AGS graded so I am not going out on much of a limb here.

That's a great looking stone!

The difference between an AGS and GIA grading report, as far as Princess are concerned, is that AGS grades on light performance. However, with a vendor like GOG, there aren't any worries, as he hand picks his diamonds. He won't offer one if it's not a good one.

I think that would make a lovely ring!

Thanks for the clarification. Would there be a significant difference between the G in the link and a comparable E or F?

Only in price, for the most part.

That looks like a beautiful stone! I certainly trust Jon''s eye because he picks really nice stones.

I think the stone looks very nice, but have grown to love gemstones more than diamonds over the last few years(NOT TRYING TO PUSH MY AGENDA.)

I personally think buying a used piece is the way to go, so you don't pay the huge markups. My attitude is probably against the grain since there are so many dealers here, but dealers have made lots of money from me over the years...and will continue to do so I am sure.

Check out this RING with great specs at pearlmans. I would think there would be some negotiating room in there too. It's exactly your budget, and wouldn't think twice about it. Nobody in 5 years of marriage has even asked or questioned the color of my wife's ring, and I paid alot for it.

Ring

Let me know what you think. Michael B settings are not cheap either.

a few more options to compare to the stone in the original post. What do you think?

not enough info at least need an IS image.

To answer your earlier question when buying from someone who knows high performance stones and backs it up with solid data if the report is by AGS or GIA don't matter too me at all because the report is irrelevant too the the diamond performance at that point and only good for color and clarity grading.

fair enough strmrdr, your opinion on the first stone/price?

I'm not a princess expert and don't really like them but it looks like a nice diamond to me.
The data looks like what I would expect from a high performance princess cut.

The PS search engine can provide a price reference that is better than I could give, I dont track princess prices.

I was told by John at GOG that flourscence is NOT an issue at all with this stone. Does anyone have other opinions? In general, I now that flourescence can make the diamond, especially a D-G appear hazy. Should I be concerned?

nope not an issue
only in a very small percentage of stones with strong or v-strong is it an issue most of them are fine.
Medium is a non-issue.

Thanks to all for your help! Will meet with Jon tomorrow to see the diamond. In the meantime, if anyone can suggest other alternatives, I''m all ears. Thank you.

I wish I could have visited GOG... that would have been total blingalicious fun

We got my diamond through GOG (a Princess of Hearts) and would absolutely recommend GOG and encourage you to trust Jon''s expertise.

I can''t wait to see the pics of what you get!

SO, I met with Jon at GOG. Everyone was right, he is a great guy and extremely helpful. I was shown 3 diamonds, including the one in my original post, and am not sure which way to go.

I am trying to get as close as possible to the Lucida ring, without the Tiffany''s prices. Jon showed me the following, which looked spectacular:

http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/3781/

Compared to the diamond in the first post, what would you say is the best stone? The 1.1ct looks only slightly smaller than the 1.46G/VS AGS0, and the H is visibly darker than the D. Calling all experts on this one. Also, what other vendors carry a solid selection of Princess of Hearts? Thank you!!!

Well, you''re comparing two different shapes. I personally like the POH shape more. And of the two, the IS on the D looks better. But you saw them in real life, did one perform better than the other?

And I don''t know of anyone else who carries the POH.

I liked the D...A LOT. It really is a beautiful diamond. I was also told that it is very tough to find one in the 1.4-1.49ct range. Dos anyone have experience with waiting for this size?

That size in any shape doesn''t come along extremely often. We have not seen very many POH at all, so I don''t know if you''ll get an answer on how long a wait could be for one.

You could always get her this one, and maybe upgrade down the road.

I am thinking about holding off on the princess 1.46 ct G/vs2 and the POH 1.1 D/VS2 in hopes of finding a ~1.2+ POH with a slightly lower color (E or F). Do you think I can win a few more points if I drop down in color? I think that with the proper dimensions, a 1.2 POH F will look the same size as a 1.46 princess and will cost the same as a 1.1 D. Any thoughts?

Jon would be best to ask, as far as your chances of finding what you want within your time frame.

And I''d also consider a G, which would definitely help.

OK, so Jon got another PoH in for me, slightly larger. Price being about the same, which would you go for? It does not look like the extra .1ct makes much of a difference in appearance, as the tables are about the same. Having narrowed my search dow to 2 diamonds, I really need some sound advice from the good people of PS. Thank you.

Hi,
I''m seriously no expert, so can''t help much. But it looks to me like there wouldn''t be a noticeable size difference between the last two, so if the price is similar, personally I would pick the D. Either that, or I would ask Jon which one he would pick of the two. I also love
30.gif
the POH compared with the normal princess - good choice there! Sorry I''m not much help, but good luck with your ring and proposal - please come back with pics when you''re done!

hello, fantastic choice going with the PoH btw - I was gonna suggest this to you earlier but you found them yourself - yay! I''m waiting for my Poh now, so exciting.
my opinion is probably go with the D as its not as deep - you''d have to ask but this may cause it to face up a bit bigger? Allthings the same, most will probably say the higherc colour. I know this is probably not what you wanna hear, but I would seriously just ask jon to evaluate for you which he thinks is the best performer and which he thinks you should get - either would be beautiful.

Thank you very much for the feedback!. I was also leaning toward the D!

Also, I noticed that GOG has both the royal x prong as well as the regular x prong. Do you think that the tapered shank on the royal would accentuate the diamond more? My gf loved the Lucida at tiffany''s and I think that the regular x prong most closely resembles it, although the royal is also quite beautiful. Any opinions?

I would also like to mention that my search has been made MUCH easier through PS! I would have never been able to learn as much about diamonds on my own, nor would I find the dealers that I have been in touch with. Thank you to all who have read my posts and espeically to those who have responded!

Hey huge, I personally Love the Royal better - this was actually my first choice for my PoH, however was a bit outta my pricerange
7.gif

There are only slight differences, however I believe the royal will work better with square shapes, whereas the regular x prong looks fab with RB''s, just MHO!

I think that stone and setting will make a gorgeous ring, and I will hazard to say it will outshine the Lucida and make your girl even happier!

Just a note, if you''ve decided on a diamond I would reserve it straight away - as you know these sizes are rare and popular, and may be snatched up by a lurker..

Can''t wait to see the finished product, you guys are gonna have my ideal ring! Better make sure you never cross me in the street incase i can''t resist..

SO...After 2 trips out to GOG, many pictures and a custom video by Jonathan, I have finally placed my ER order with GOG! I am very excited and have so far not shown any signs of post purchase depression! I was originally considering the PoH cut, which is stunning, but found slightly better value in the Square H&A. I was convinced that cut of the corners would not really be visible once the diamond is set.

The diamond:

The setting:

I gave up some clarity for size, as the diamond is completely eye clean. You can see the video that Jonathan made for me on GOG''s website, where he compares the 3 diamonds I was considering.

Second video down....

Anyway, I hope my choice gets the approval of the FANTASTIC PSers, who have helped educate me more than I ever thought possible (thank you!). I will try to post some pics when available. Again, thanks to all who have responded to my and other posts.

Holy moly! That stone is awesome! Wow.
30.gif
And that setting, well, I obviously like it.

You, have the exact ring I would have gotten, if I could have afforded the size stone I was after with my upgrade. Sadly, I could not. *sniff* But needless to say, you certainly have my approval, in spades!

And do not even think of not posting pictures.

We WILL hunt you down.

Congrats!!

Awesome choices! Congrats and please share photos!

Nicely done, a great stone at a good price. As Ellen said, be sure to post some pics once you get it
