Hi, I''m a new member here. Have been researching buying a diamond online for the last 6 months and think I am ready to take the plunge!! I have seen two diamonds that I love on James Allen''s site. My first question is (and I don''t mean to insult anyone) but is this a reliable retailer? My second is, is it necessary to get an independent appraisal once I physically receive the diamond?
And my third question refers to the diamonds themselves. The two I am looking at on this site (www.jamesallen.com) are item number 1063219 and 1064268.
I am leaning towards the 1063219, but am worried that I am compromising on the colour and clarity ? I have a feeling that because it is an ideal cut, I am able to slightly compromise in these areas but would really appreciate if someone who knows their stuff could give me some advice. Thanks so much in advance

1. I have never purchased a diamond from JA, but several people on PS have and seem to be very happy with the results. As far as JA being reputable, I don''t think you have to worry about that.

2. My personal pick would be 1063219.

3. I def. think you should get an appraisal once you receive the purchase...why take a chance when that kind of money is being spent?

Good luck!

Thank you so much. Think I just needed a little reassurance. It seems such a lot of money to be buying blind. Think you are right re the appraisal also.

#9,

Buying blind with princesses, or any non-round can be a problem, and is why opting for AGS certs, where available, showing 0 for light performance, or use of ASET and such to demonstrate such is recommended.

James Allen may not see any of his stones before they''re selected or he may see a bunch...not sure...but he works well with his suppliers, and seems to have a good stock, and represents them well, is priced real well, and is reliable. If he had an AGS0, I''d recommend him. I bought from him.

The SBC db is an easy place to shop for these, and Jim at JA uses it a lot. There, I saw this 1.01 G VS1 for $5653 wire priced, and you might want to check it out.

Regards,

P.S. At least, search here for princess and AGS, and review the implications for yourself.

Ira Z, my God, i think i need to go and lie down to try and assimilate all that info!!!!!

Will get a coffee, few choc bickkies and go through those links. Cheers

Sorry #9. What''s a bikkie?

Unfortunately, the real work is noted at the end of my post, and is not specified. Also, maybe...with a fresh perspective...you can help us.

a) cut is big around here
b) AGS0 is reviewed a lot here vis-a-vis princesses. Review.
c) even better, (or really, in Tandem with) if there''s a Jared''s nearby (call wherever first) see some (AGS0 princesses), compare to some GIAs, which is all you''ve been looking at so far, and see if you think the premium is worth it. You do pay a premium for them.

Then again, you''re paying a premium for a diamond over a simulant, and other gems, so what else is new.

Best,

He he.....sorry it must be an Irish thing. I meant a chocolate biscuit.......the answer to all lifes decisions!!!.....in moderation of course!!! Unfortunately no Jareds here. Very little choice and info readily available in forum style (in Ireland) Thanks for all that info. Really appreciate it.

Ha I thought you might have been an Aussie! For Ira''s info a biscuit is a cookie. (I''m an Aussie living in the US).

I don''t know anything about princesses but as far as JA''s reliabilty, search for threads by WorkingHardForSmallRewards - he has a lot of recent experience with JA, all good.

Good luck!
