My fiancee has had free rein on her engagement ring within a pre-set budget. This is her choice, I dont believe its a good stone at all, Fish eye?We can still return what do you think? These are the stock pics from online have not seen in person but not impressed. Do I let her be happy or???

Does she really love it? Also, what's the budget?

She says she loves it, but I get impression once I told her this she is second guessing. Budget is 1k or less. Sold as untreated 1.47ct with .6ct diamonds, I think any pinkish purple stone will make her happy honestly. I know very little about jewelry and her even less.

I'd have to veto that one.

You seem to want honest opinions and no offense intended, the stone has an enormous window and the setting looks very poor.

Thanks its truly appreciated. I felt from limited research I have done couldnt have been a wise choice. will show her this after a few more posts. I notice bezel looks bad, window, crooked channel. Seller says diamonds in channel are fine but I disagree. Please help me help her to not make a mistake. Like I said I know very very little and her less but I spotted all this in a few min with a untrained eye.

The center stone has a giant window and the sidestones look included and crooked.

While I understand her desire for a halo with diamonds down the side, because that is a very popular look right now, a budget of 1k just isn't going to be able to achieve that at a reasonably good quality. She can get a nice center stone in that color for the price with a simpler setting, and perhaps later change the setting.

Here are several random options:

http://www.etsy.com/listing/114705471/engagement-ring-pink-sapphire-in-14k?ref=shop_home_active (looks like a halo but just has a few diamonds)

I haven't personally bought from that seller but several people on another forum I'm on have and have been pleased. He has very reasonable prices and while his gems vary in cut quality, there are plenty with decent cutting. The settings look like basic Stuller stock settings.

Thanks for the help its really appreciated! I am also seeing that maybe I should increase the budget for her slightly say 1.2k since it is a one time, lifetime purchase.

So, I thought to look on a secondhand site (mostly made up of PSers) and came across this setting:

There are a couple others, but I liked this one the most.

Also, this stone has long gone unloved (It's been on the website for 5ish years) but I've always had a love affair with it, even though it is slightly windowed in the middle:

Those Etsy rings, especially the last two look good for the price.

Another route you can take is to build your own...

(first one would fit the bill) http://www.gemfix.com/sapphire_pink.html

I vote for this stone and setting. If you order from that eBay vendor though, I would definitely pay extra and upgrade the diamonds in the setting to higher color and clarity. I have purchased from that vendor before and their pieces are very nice with the upgraded stones.

I did a very quick search, if you look hard enough I'm almost positive you could do just as good or better while remaining within your initial budget. I haven't dealt with LOGR, but I can highly recommend Gemfix, I've dealt with them before. They were very pleasant to deal with and their stones are top notch.

honestly, budget is small for doing a halo with channel diamonds and a quality center color stone.
however, something along those lines could be done within the budget IF lots more research and effort goes into the project.
lose the channel diamonds.
concentrate on the center stone and perhaps an even smaller halo.
let the center color stone be the star of the show.
and the center color stone should not be windowed.

if you go the sapphire route understand the difference between treatments.

you've rec'd lots of good leads for sourcing. I haven't looked at them but I trust those that responded.

I liked the middle, second row.

took a look: will be darker than in the photo....and probably too dark IRL.
